I've had my Weber gas grill for 24 years and it works great. So do my BGE and Yoder pellet smoker. Now that I'm retired, I have the time to smoke using an offset smoker, otherwise my other grills and smokers work great.

My dad built this many years ago at the Armadillo Ranch. Just use old twigs and sticks to get a fire going of split oak and mesquite from the woods out back.
Rain falling on the fire pit cover making a lot of steam. ![]() The heat enters at the top on the left and has to "Down Draft" through the grill toward the bottom of the pit to then exit the chamber and enter the smoke box on the right below the stack when the lid is closed.

On my Klose I went with 1/2 inch on the fire box as an option.. In my estimation on the Workhorse...I would like to have seen a flat top firebox which is useful in pre heating your wood or cooking a pot of beans...and a shelf running the length of the Cook chamber to set stuff on..on the Klose it is collapse-able as standard.. When I bought my Klose in 2005 it was state of the art...but over the years there have been a lot of little refinements made..but the cost of one of those rigs sure has sky rocketed in the past coupla years... But anyway ya want to slice the Brisket those units no matter the maker are really nice...
