When life gives you lemons, sometimes I’ll just buy a soda. :D
My drunk driver drama isn’t over. The DA is gonna go after him, so that means my police report is in limbo. I’ll call them again next weekend. I’ll try to attach a fine to his sentence for some sorta retribution, but I’m not holding my breath.
I still have my beloved old truck. (Put a pin in this for now) Anyways, I bought a new truck. I put down half the money and drove it home. I just sent one giant ass payment and paid the rest off. I can’t stomach paying the vig, to the bank. Whatever. I’m blessed to have a wife that is killer with $. Anyways. My new kayak mover! The old truck? I’m tempted to drive it to my brothers friends shop in El Paso. It’s way cheaper over there. I’ll pay a tiny bit out of pocket, I imagine on top of the abysmal CA uninsured drivers cap. It runs awesome. I’d argue it’s smoother than the new one. It’s gobs torquey-er. Get it fixed and drive it back. Some friend planted the image of my truck with a flat bed on it. Haha. Kayak moving would be simple. Road trip it to AK, sel it there, fly home. ….just a thought. ![]() P.S. I went to AK on a cruise and got Covid… mofo! ![]()

Police depts car be constipated. I faced the same thing with my truck being totalled many years ago. I too bought it back and fixed it. I drove it another 10 years to where the salvage title had no effect on the price. A working truck is a truck, so your ideas sound like a plan.
On the ins co and the police, you have to lean on your ins hard. Tell them your hands are tied and you can't do anything. If they want the report their lawyers can subpoena it. Or something like that. Don't let them frustrate you. When it comes to the buy back, you still have the truck so you hold top card. Don't settle with them until you haggle the crap out of them. I hassled this one lady at USSA for a solid 2 weeks. I sent her pics and receipts for every dime I had tin that truck including brand new brakes, mileage, anything. I said at one point that I had read the policy and it said replace with like. I told her I don't want the money, I want exactly what I had and it says I can. At that point I said just find and buy me a truck, or I'll find one and you buy it. There were none for sale at the time and we both knew that. I pushed up the settlement quite a bit. I got my buy back down a full thousand dollars and a nice payout for the damage. I actually made money. I think I made 2 grand for 2 weeks work fixing the front end. It was all bolt on damage. A lot but the frame and inter fender well bolt up points were perfect. |

Definitely make your case with the insurance company. When my truck was reduced to a burnt out shell in a garage fire they low balled me in their offer.I pointed out the vehicle had been purchased 5 months prior and they hadn't included the cap. Of course they couldn't tell that because all that remained were the metal bits. Eventually they made an offer I felt was fair but wouldn't cut a check until they had the keys! So they got the second set as the other set had been in the ignition.

I wish we could have made it work.
New Kubota shows up next week. Thank god MY wife is like yours. I would do exactly what you wrote. If I got your old truck a flat bed was in the plans...even priced it out. Very nice newbie, btw.

You have a 4x4 crew cab Toyota with a roached bed?
Can it take a flatbed with a shortbed camper? Because that would be sweet. |

Just curious about the Police report. Why is it in limbo? Getting a copy of an accident report should not have anything to do with an arrest Here in NY a copy is available after the officer files it at the precinct whether or not an arrest is involved. There are 2 different reports filed one for the accident and one for the arrest. At the very least we would give an accident information exchange at the scene. Seems very unfair to hold up an insurance claim because the police will not release the report.
