Rum Drinkers, what's your favorite?
I've had rums from around the world, lots to choose from within the Caribbean.
Belize One Barrel, who can get it in your local store?, send me some! I can't get it local. Ron Zacapa, excellent sipping over ice with a slice of lime. Rum and Coke or Straight up? ![]()

Barbancourt 3 or 5 star- its an agricole so a bit more herbal than most. Really good up or mojito.

Man, it's been 40 years since I tasted a rum. If I'm gonna drink brown stuff it will be Kentucky made.

Barbancourt Reserve, Papa Pilar Dark, and Mount Gay are my main go-to's for sipping.
Keep a bottle of Four Square also for when I feel spendy... Captain Morgan for my rum and cokes. Good ole Barcardi for mixed and frozen tropical drinks .

Last time I bought any rum....15 years back, it was Heaven Hill.

My go to is Bumbu, very smooth sipping. The other is Flor de Cana, both very different.

Definitely not Hudson Bay 151. That stuff put me under a table when I was at a Polish wedding when I was about 16. Maybe 2 shots, done! Generally in NC you have to buy your rum at a State Store (ABC) and they have a limited offering of rum or anything else. We have some Captain Black in the pantry for rum and coke but that's about it.

Goslings for a dark and stormy. Tried pussers in there once, and it was just awful
Have a big bottle of coconut rum for blended pineapple drinks. Zacapa or mount gay for everything else. |

You misspelled rhum.
I really like the French colonial stuff over the British. Especially in the white/unaged as they're so much more vegetal and "fresh" tasting from the cane juice rather than the molasses of the masses. A killer daiquiri is just 2pt white rhum agricole, 1pt lime, 1pt 1:1 simple syrup. Maybe a dash of ango if you're being spicy... "rhums" are a bit hard to find in some places, but the Haitian ones - Barbancourt in particular - get close and easier to get.

I recently discovered that if you put Sailor Jerry's in a root beer float, you have a root beer flotilla. Not bad.

I tend to drink Venezuelan rum, since I’m from Venezuela. Yet I suspect that, as a class, I like British-style rums overall better than Spanish-style rums. I do like Rhum Agricole and have a very nice bottle of Clairin Sajous from Chelo Distillery in Saint Michel de L’Attalaye, Haiti, but rhum agricole is its own taste. The best glass(es) of rum I’ve ever had, I think, were from a 1981-ish vintage of Ron Pampero Aniversario that we brought with us when we moved to the US in 1982. Around 10 years ago my mom and I were preparing Christmas Eve dinner and I decided to open the liquor cabinet to pour myself something to sip while we cooked. There was about three fingers’ worth in that bottle and damn, it’s still the best memory I have of sipping a glass of rum. My suspicions about the bottle were confirmed when I pulled it out of its leather bag and saw the date stamped on the bottle. I’ve got another bottle from the early ‘80s that’s unopened and I’m kind of afraid to open it. I’ve had the stuff you can buy here now but it’s not the same. Maybe it’s all in my head. among Venezuelan rums, I like Santa Teresa 1796 best.

XM 10 year, labeled as "Liquid Gold", Eldorado as a second choice, both products of Guyana, considered part of the Caribbean due to the English heritage. All the Caribbean islands that make rum also grow their own sugar cane but only Guyana has the Demerara River. Demerara rum is the best in the world IMO, clean the toilet with Bacardi, Mt. Gay etc....
I lived and worked there for about 12 years, if you went cheap and got the XM 5 year, the mix was more expensive than the rum, 10 year was about 6 bucks a bottle. A carton of smokes for 7 bucks, tons of beautiful women begging for a date, man I miss those years. Finn

I'm exclusively a bourbon drinker. But I decided to expand my horizons and find some good rum to try. Bought this at the distillery a few months ago. Out of the 6-7 types I tried at the tasting, this was by far the best for my tastes (and, of course, the most expensive
