The "catch" still just blows my mind and seems like it is straight out of Flash Gordon. The ship clearly had a catastrophic failure and scattered parts over Turks and Caicos islands. Sometimes stuff breaks.

NASA has been landing rockets like this since the mid 1990s. elon is 30 years behind.

There's public hearings going on about the effort to increase the number of launches a year:

And in the article I read, spaceX described it as a rapid unscheduled disassembly.
Gotta love their sense of humor.

RUD is a term that predates SpaceX by decades.

On the other hand, this is their way of testing. Sometimes it doesn't go as planned and they iterate changes and try again. The Soviet union did their stuff the same way. Worked well enough until the N1 for them. Got them into space first. Though there is a conspiracy that Yuri was not the first man in space, just the first successful launch in space. First one crashed in China, so the story goes, but I believe it has been widely debunked.

Supposed to be another launch from VDBAFB tonight at 7:10 PM. I hope the clouds don't come in by then.

The Boeing H.B. CA developed X-37B is back after going up and touching some Chinese & Russian Satellite's and revolutionizing the space game.
X-37A was our baby back in the 2010 development cycle. All the aerodynamics of the space shuttle were miniaturized and leveraged again. The payloads have certainly changed since the program info went dark.

Maybe "Go fast and break things," isn't a good motto for them after all.
