Deleted X5 diesel....anyone have knowledge on these?
My default on Bimmers has been 'stay away, not built to last' but somehow started reading up on these deleted x5 diesels and it's a tempting proposition. MUCH cheaper and WAY more available than the Cayenne oil burners.
So anyone play with these? Does BMW actually make a car that doesn't drink a quart every 5k after some mileage is put on it?

I have a 335d (same engine) and I love it so much it hurts. Mine is not deleted and with 170k the dpf is at end of life and now the scr is throwing a code. The fines are crazy if you get caught, and the ones I've seen on youtube blow black smoke and you can hear the turbos all the time.
Mine would use about a quart of oil every 6 or 7K. I have since gone to changing the oil every 5k and don't add any. I have a good blackstone oil analysis. Last year I had to replace the turbo oil feed line that is a major PITA.

Both my daughter-in-laws have 2017 F15 X5 diesels. One has the 40d, the other an M50d. They've both owned them for around 5 years. Absolutely brilliant vehicles. Apart from routine maintenance, they have had no issues at all. The 40d has 180,000kms, the M50d has 175,000kms. I do the oil changes for both at 10,000kms and use 10W40. Both vehicles return around 8.5l /100kms.
Oh, and they both go like stink. The M50d is an absolute bruiser from 60kmh onward. In saying that the 40d is no slouch either. It's not a great deal different to the M50.

Deleting voids the warranty and often dealers won't touch them for paid work.
Get a "clean" no smoke tune and enjoy the extra mpg, performance and longevity.

I’ve never been into modifying diesels by deleting the EGR system, just why? They are not that complicated to maintain. I’ve always thought that it’s just another BS thing from the internet.
The BMW big 6 diesels run really strong, at least the ones I’ve driven. In the 3-series 335d, they were absolute monsters. They have carbon issues in the intake like a lot of engines but that is manageable. |
