Sinead O'Connor - RIP

Gone way too soon... I really liked her music but she left me conflicted on some of her views.

Regardless RIP.

Wow, 56, pretty young. She was a beautiful young woman.

I didn't listen to much of her stuff, but what I heard was good. I try to ignore artists personal values, leanings, etc....

sc_rufctr 07-26-2023 11:58 AM

Hers were pretty hard to ignore... Just sayin

Again RIP Ms O'Connor.

I’m sure many of the artists I listen to would disagree with my views much more forcefully than I would theirs (I’m looking at you Rage Against the Machine) but I don’t need to agree with them to enjoy their music.

RIP. She was talented and tortured.

Suicide? She lost a 17 year old son to suicide last year. It’s catchy. And devastating.

Would never wish that on anyone.

She had a beautiful voice...and apparently a lot of demons.

RIP, Sinead.

Reminds me of a friend who dressed up as the Pope for Halloween one year and it just so happened that O'conner had just ripped up the Pope's picture on SNL. So he printed out hundreds of copies of her Rolling Stone cover picture and had a friend, dressed as a bishop, hand them out to people at a local bar (The Yucatan Liquor Stand for any of you old Houstonians) throughout the night. As he made his way around the bar people would join him in tearing up her picture. It was a riot and he almost won the $1,000 best costume prize but some under age chick in a see through teddy showed up and took the prize.

I hate it when that happens. :p

Suicide is an utterly alien concept to me. I can't imagine doing my family like that.

Saw her in concert in Portland, Maine in 1997. Great talent and outstanding voice. A lot of pain and emotion behind her songs; especially her earlier work. RIP.

An immense talent. I hope she finds peace. Maybe one of her most autobiographical songs:

One of the first to be “cancelled”, in her case after exposing the Catholic church.

Good point. She was years ahead of the church being widely exposed for it's abuses. Her problem was like Colin Kaepernick's- misdirecting the target of her protest.

I met my wife in the Yucatan Liquor Stand in Tampa which was owned/run by the same group as the Houston location. I spent many nights shutting that place down.

Yeah, that would do it with a few minor qualifications.

Once you get to the point mentally where that is considered the only step forward (under average conditions, possibly not for terminal patients), all other ration and reason has gone out the window. A rational, reasonable person is not going to understand the thoughts of someone that is actually committed to that path.
