Are you talking blue collar or white collar? I worked at, with, for Ford from 1994-2019. Union almost doesn't exist in professional positions, and the only nepotism that really exists is for members of the Ford family. Yes there are cliques and people develop professional friendships and support over the years, but it's not really nepotism.

I'd approach it like any other position, be professional, be able to talk about your past projects and successes, especially the classic 'Tell me about when something didn't work, someone didn't like your idea' type questions. Some areas love car geeks, others are ambivalent, but I don't think anyone would be penalized for being into cars. I'd be ready to talk about your view of the company, industry, current and future trends without getting political. Electrification is happening globally, I don't know your view on electric cars, but don't start talking about coal powered electric cars or anything stupid unless it's relevant to a question or topic being discussed, and then only speak knowledgably about how production, distribution, and how that may be changing in the future. Be knowledgeable about the market, and competitors, be able to discuss your views on the 'big three', legacy manufacturers, start ups, and how you think they may affect the industry in the future. Remember Ford is an international company that designs, builds, and sells cars around the globe. Don't get stuck in an American centric point of view.

Ford are such a large company that there aren't many generalities. Just remember then are an old company, and despite their efforts and intentions they aren't yet operating like a start up or disruptor, even if they think they are.

Good luck, honestly if I hadn't been downsized I'd still be there. While they let me, and thousands of others go over the last decade, I hold no ill will towards the company or it's employees.

Wow, Jeff, is this local or does this mean you would have to move to Detroit or something?

BTW, about the same time I was let go from Ford, a friend was similarly let go from GM. About a year later she got a job at Ford, I bumped into her about six months ago, and by that point she'd never met 90% of her new department even though she's in the Metro area. Ford and GM are fully into the remote work thing.

Two neighbours work for Ford, one goes in about once every couple of weeks, and the other has spent several months at a time visiting friends and interesting locations while working full time remotely.

I work for a Korean company now, and while I push one day a week work from home for my guys, I've been 100% back in the office since late 2020.

He did a lot of administration work depending on his alliances within the union. Once those guys left, he got put back on production. Weird dynamic. He makes more than i would with a PhD in academia.

I'm not sure how that works at a purely corporate level...

Back in the 60's when we were still in Virginia, we had a neighbor who worked at the Norfolk plant.

He and his wife were my parent's best friends. Lived about 5 houses over. One day he brought home one of those new T-Birds with the sequential tail lights - thing looked like it was designed by NASA! Had power everything...lol.....

Folks at the end of our street - the father worked at a dealership and was always driving one of the latest Galaxies, etc. We saw him drive by our house every night on the way home after work.

Sorry - can't help with your question, Ayles. Good luck with the interview!

I work for Tenneco. Most of the analysists work remote or are required to come to the office 3 days a week. Depending where they live, they have a "home" plant nearest their home. I'm presuming you will be on allot of meetings via Teams and evaluating data with little or no involvement on the manufacturing floor.

I would ask if there are Individual Development Plans for your own personal growth. Cuz what I have seen in the automotive world, especially over the past 5-7 years, is the average of 3% annual raises regardless of performance. You don't grow at that rate, you would need to look at job postings to advance yourself. Be sure to negotiate vacation time and bonus percentage.

Good luck
