Henry Manny, writing for R&T, called the E type "The greatest crumpet collector known to man."

Fun video..thanks.

HobieMarty 08-01-2023 02:44 PM

Enzo said it was the most beautiful car when it first arrived on the scene. I remember back in 1987 a guy I worked with told me of an E-Type coupe that was for sale near where he lived, said it needed some work and it was something like 2500 bucks. Geez!!!

I remember when the 1st video came out and I said only Jay Leno could/would have a local cop come by and give him a tip about the Jag found in the garage.

Turned out really nice.

Feel so sad for idiot hoarders

I laughed at that too. But who better to get it? Sympathetic restoration, no expense spared, and he shows it to the world through his channel.

Great video - thanks for sharing that.

Yep, exactly. I'd LOVE to have something like that, but I wouldn't be able to afford to do it justice.

I remember reading several articles by Peter Egan about the complexity and cost of working on old E-types.

I've always loved them. I think I've got a matchbox or hotwheels from the early 70s that was one of my favorites when I was a tiny fella. It looks a lot like this, same color, probably about the same condition.

I watched this the night before and really enjoyed it.
You notice his mechanics in the background? I bet his shop is bigger than most Porsche indy shops.
I bet he dropped a crap load of money into this care just because he can.

Idiots with lots of money. I doubt this car was in a garage at a trailer park.

HobieMarty 08-02-2023 06:22 AM

I have an old AM radio that is an E-Type coupe. It was left in a storage building at I house I rented once. The only information about it that I have found is that it was a prototype by a company called WACO so not many were made. I am currently re-chroming the bumpers and windshield frame. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...519762e7f1.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...784713fc04.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...411d182dbb.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...7f3b9ac0f4.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...61bfa0f22c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...363194bb01.jpg

Per the Internet, the price to buy a '63 e-type new was ~$6k.

My parents bought their first home in the early 70s. I think it was a tiny little 2 br home. I think they paid 14k. So probably 10 years later and just over twice the price for a home. Yeah, I think anyone that's ever bought a new E-type was not exactly "middle class" with respect to spending power.

Thanks, here are the details of the radio and the bumpers and windshield frame stripped of the old chrome, painted glossy black, and then I will spray chrome on them. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...dad8d58ae0.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...139dbafe73.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...b46c9e3947.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...3b997325cf.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f777ca253b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...386f21dabc.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4913e073ca.jpg

Jay does the old car hobby the best way...The shop & crew...

Posting this as an update. I rechromed the bumpers and windshield frame on my Jaguar E-Type coupe AM radio and got it all back together today. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...902fd4f172.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...18d5225919.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...1907a786b7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...236b253ffc.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c0a4f67df5.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...e6152d7aec.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...ae14dbf3af.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8a5a0123bd.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...bf80563549.jpg

Yes the radio does work, it picks up AM stations but is not very loud. A friend of mine said to spray some contact cleaner on the electrical components and that may help it out. It has a hole in the top of the fender/cowl area and I have seen pictures of one of these radios having an antenna that would go there but I don't see where an antenna would attach to anything in the radio part. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...c8258ba8c5.jpg

Wow, I'd like to see that!!! Does yours have an antenna? The only information I have found about these radios is that a company named WACO made them and that they were a prototype and made a few trying to secure a deal but the deal didn't work out so not many were made.

My dad paid 3750 OTD for his '65 356 C coupe that I have ... but that included $200 for dealer installed AC unit.

From what I recall from my old car mags, a new '65 Mustang would run you $1750ish

Funny that the guy who was actually pumping out the most beautiful cars in the world would say that. I personally don't like the way those old Jags look.

Going back to 1928 when my dad's parents got married, they bought a "house" that is little more than a shed, 12x20 feet, one room, no electricity, no running water or sewer of course, near the Armor and Company meat packing plant. They paid $50. It is the house where my dad was born.

In 1974 when I bought my 1974 914 2.0 that I custom ordered it was $6,750 out the door. They tried to sell me AC and that was a full grand more. I declined. I paid it off in two years.

For sure that Jag E type ended up at the perfect place. It was repaired and made to run, and kept as original as possible. Jay has an amazing collection, and he shares it with the world with his show.
