Tools that you don't have and could use.
 

Well, I can't think of any, but in the spirit of copy catting threads....

Not a tool but a level driveway if not a garage.

There is plenty I can do with just ramps but I do not trust my cars on jacks on my driveway. Even after a shake test.

One that will put the air filter rear clips on for my 85 911. I have tried string, and I have to get my arm wet with soapy water, and cram it in the tight space to get them on, and I end up with my arm looking like a had a rabid dog attack me.

Yesterday, I saw a short video that shows a guy replacing the upper and lower control arm ball joints, with an air powered tool. It’s basically what I have now, but it pushes the ball joints in and out much quicker.

When I replaced my right front upper ball joint a couple weeks ago, I had to disassemble half the suspension to get the control arm out, to be able to replace the ball joint. What would’ve taken 10 minutes took three hours.

It’s not one I would use very often and it’s probably expensive, but it would be nice.

THAT would be a great tool. Even the snorkel on an MFI or carb'd car can be a b*****

I would love to have a powerful laser cutter/engraver.

And/or access to a waterjet.

Need a 1/2" drive torque wrench...

...I stupidly caused my 25 year old Craftsman clicker-style to explode when I tried to use it as a breaker bar last month. :rolleyes:

Tool Junkie despite not using them much at this late stage in life...so it's not need, but want? I really should stop watching youtube tool box tours. Too often I see tools I think would be cool to have, but know well that I don't really "need" them. Once in a while I'll buy something...individual wrenches to fill in skipped set sizes, etc. One recent purchase I don't regret is two knipex pliers...a pair of 10" Cobras and a pair of twin grips. Those I grab often...

A recent tool box tour I watched had a pro open his pliers drawer..must have been close to 50 pairs, mostly snap-on...then the pro said he wished he'd discovered knipex earlier, because he'd gladly swap brands.

Damn..I've done that. Since then, no more removing with a torque wrench. Anyway, if you haven't bought a replacement yet, a good watch.

When I did my rear wheel bearing on my 85 911, the nut has some crazy torque like 325 pound feet.

I have a 3 foot breaker bar, and the correct socket. I stood on a bathroom scale, and did the math to figure the end of the 3 foot bar, minus my weight and I got to that number.

Then I went to a local truck stop on I-35 with the socket in hand. I walked into the shop area, and the first mechanic I saw I just said I have the socket, and I have two nuts that need 325 foor pounds torque with the torque wrench. I had a $20 in my hand. He grabbed a huge torque wrench, snapped on my socket. Click Click, on each side, He handed back the socket and I don't think he said anything at all. Just a thumbs up when I handed him the 20 bucks.

Going to have to get a 3D printer eventually.

Organization is first.

I bought new garage doors a few weeks ago and the guy absolutely destroyed my pegboard / organization. Can't even walk in the garage now, let alone find stuff.

I have made it mostly modular and put stuff on casters. This is pretty flexible but damn. What a mess today...

After that? Maybe some of those sweet Allan wrenches. And a parts washer. And a better air compressor. And a pony. And a cupcake machine.

Would love to have one of these for sharpening end mills and lathe bits.

I need an impact driver tool. The kind you hit with a hammer to get the stuck phillips head bolt out of rotor...

A nice bandsaw, and a big enough place to keep it.

Got a resin Saturn last October. Just purchased my 19th 1kg bottle of resin. Have used it to make tools for the printer and for my neice for her woodworking. Kid does his tanks and such.

How's the fine detail and finish on those?

Plasma cutter, water-jet, CNC mill, TIG welder, sheet metal formers, oh the list....

Those are a must have in any toolbox!

I have long been to the point, if I want a tool or toy, I just get it. Except around my birthday or Christmas, I will send a link to my wife so she can get me something as a present, otherwise I am impossible to by a present for that I will use or wanted.
