Another what is it post. But explosive

First off I hope the images load. It's my first day ; ) (trying to load an image)

My daughter just returned from a a three week sea kayaking, back packing, ice climbing, white water rafting and mountaineering camp out of Haines, Alaska. On one of the hikes she found this. Kinda looks like a blasting cap to me but with no wires i'm doubtful. She wants me to hit it with a hammer. I passed. She thought the pelican community would know what it is : )

I don’t know, but I’m guessing it’s explosive!😂

no comment here.

Could be the explosive used to shoot a line.

masraum 08-12-2023 06:38 PM

Seems completely safe. It could be disposed of it in a camp fire (far away from people, buildings, and animals).

In case you aren't aware of the "rule" here in OT, green text is used to denote sarcasm.

flatbutt 08-12-2023 07:08 PM

Sure looks like an electric blasting cap?

Arizona_928 08-12-2023 07:25 PM

Looks like a primary explosive...

Under so many grams they're legal to own.

RNajarian 08-12-2023 09:11 PM

Is it a squib used in movie/tv productions to simulate bullets striking the ground/surface?

ckissick 08-13-2023 09:10 AM

It might be for seismic refraction surveys.

LEAKYSEALS951 08-13-2023 09:19 AM

The sensible thing is take it to a field, shoot it with a tracer, and post what happens on youtube.

(I was going to say gun range, but, you don't want to hurt the gun range. A field is more expendable.)

I second the motion. All in favor, say "aye." SmileWavy

LEAKYSEALS951 08-13-2023 09:52 AM

Also if you could mount it on a hobbyhorse before detonation that would be nice.

Maybe ask Alec Baldwin , I hear he's a munitions expert 😋 .

Maybe tell Alec it's a cigar.

Could be what I believe is called an Emulsion charge or something similar. Used in avalanche control situations. Seen them where they add a nose device, fins and tail to some device with it then it's launched. Joking aside maybe ask EOD to look at it and see what they say.

Noah930 08-13-2023 12:36 PM

Uh, just out of curiosity: how'd she get it from AK to MI?

Give it a lick or suck, it's candy, centre tastes of peppermint

Can be bought at most souvenir shops at all seaside towns in the UK

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Just be careful.

Arizona_928 08-13-2023 02:00 PM

Don't answer that on the internet....

Seriously.
Don't even ask her.
