Bubble Tune
Wow! My house has a street on the backside which was opened through to connect the north to the south of town. It has a speed limit of 40 mph, but the reality is 55-60-90mph. The traffic has increased in speed and noise far beyond what I would call tolerant. The worst times are the retail rush hour. So get up 15 minutes earlier and drive at a respectable speed. Add it the STUPID BUBBLE TUNE! WTF are these idiots thinking? Somehow they think this sounds like a F1 race car? I guess I was blessed with cars of the 60’s and 70’s. Horsepower is horsepower, Fart-Cans and Bubble Tunes are fake BS.

it's not bubbles...it's burbles.
I belong to the Civic SI forum and hear it mentioned frequently. |

But that makes sense, burble. The funny thing is that burbles are natural with a carbed motor. Then modern FI came along, and engineers realized that they could increase efficiency but cutting fuel flow when a car is coasting, so they implemented that. But folks hear race cars burbling, and want their cars to sound cool like that, so they are pumping fuel into the motor when coasting. So it's intentional inefficiency for aural aesthetics. It does sound cool, but I wouldn't turn it on unless there was some sort of actual performance reason for it. |
BMW pulls away from the morning coffee shop, slowly changes gears at about 15mph and.... Lordy.
|
If I run my Civic SI up to almost redline and release the throttle....it burbles.
It has to be in sport mode or it won't burble.:) |
Just another way those BMW fools are annoying.

Years ago, I discovered that I could get a tiny bit of burble by coasting with the foot barely on the gas. I don't ever do it, but it was interesting to discover. |

Most modern day fart-can cars with burbles would blow the 60-70's car off the road...while getting 30-40 mpg. But I do appreciate the older cars. My first car was a 66 Chevelle...loud and fun. 15mpg and it rusted out at 100K miles.:) |
Cars tuned in this manner are specifically banned form my area's oldest and largest weekly cars'n'coffee. The volunteer staff that assists with parking and lining up all of the cars (affectionately known as the "thugs") simply turn them away, not even allowing them into the parking lot.
|
My Duc used to burble due to an inherent lean condition. It was a cool sound but I tuned it to eliminate the downshift snap crackle and pop. Even my Harley runs quietly.
|
So back to Bosch CIS.
|
Yes.....I want one.....Coupe, dark silver/gunmetal w/ tan/cocoa interior please.

Honda, BMW, and the odd loud truck. They are the most common near me.
My favorite is the Harley with super-loud open headers, and then the radio is cranked up for the rider. And anyone within 500 feet. Lots of inconsiderate twaatz out there. My son got pulled over and 'warned' for a missing muffler (he had an appointment to get it fixed, so they did not ticket him), but these cars are way worse... I asked a local cop why they never ticket the loud motorcycles, he said 'I have no idea what's legal and what's not'. |
A couple years back, I was headed home from the airport around 2am. Almost nobody on the road and I'm doing 85-90 in my Prelude with a Greddy exhaust.
I spotted the cruiser sitting in the median and let off on the gas. He lit up and chased me down. I lowered the window and said "What's the problem Sir?" He answered "When you saw me and let off on the gas...it sounded like a truck with a jake brake." We talked for a few minutes and he ended up saying..."see if you can find a quieter muffler" no ticket.:) I still have that one on...it only does the loud noise when lifting from high revs. |
Saw a guy on the freeway the other day with a burble tune. He would hit it, then coast, then hit it, then coast...Aarrgghh! So annoying.
|
Does it sound any worse than when they hit the rev limiter and stay on it?

[QUOTE=masraum;12066687]I was going to say, "what the hell is bubble tune?"[/QUOTE-]
Bubble, burble, tomata, tomato. 😆 |
The neighbor kid brought a Toyota Supra GR. Pretty cool car, but not mycup of tea. He burbled it up with a tune. Dad said he told him it was a pipe that he put on. I was following him down the street to our respective houses. He was snap-cracking-poping-pinging-and pooping around the corner when a 85YO was stepping off the curb to cross and he almost went down. He must have thought someone was shooting at him. The kid just couldn’t keep his foot out of the burble. aaHe would short shift just to get into his lovely sounds.
|
^^^ You might be surprised at how much money is spent to get that type of sound.
The Civic SI forum is full of new owners that want to pull their down-pipe and exhaust system to get more burbles....ready to trash their brand new exhaust. If it's called a 'mod'...they will buy it. |

I like a little burble when I lift, but loud snap, crackle, and pop, no thanks. What I think is really stupid is when you see guys hitting the rev limiter while parked, to get the snap crackle pop. I just don’t understand that. Kids… |
And all the guys looking for short shifters to replace the ones on their brand new Honda SI
Honda is known for having some of the slickest shifters on the market...but they will still pull it out because it's a mod to help them slam-shift it. |
I was walking downtown and thought there was a shootout a block ahead. Nope.
Bam Bam Bam Bam cannon fire. I was once close to a real shootout which was quieter. I'm sure the folks eating their $200 dinners outside on Main Street appreciated that. But hey guess what? This city just passed a law against the cops pulling anyone over for loud exhaust and missing tags. |

Have one of these and planning on installing once I find the time to get back on the SC He did a great job explaining how it works. I've looked at them for my 84 Let us know how you like it. Did you get it with the sound arrestor? |
I'm someone who rather likes hearing a car burble. More so, I'm happy people are enjoying their cars. It's a clear indication they're enjoying life. That it's a Lamborghini, or modded KIA, is rather moot.

Living in a rural area, I don't hear many loud cars.
The huge 'worked over' pick-ups are a whole diff story. Can hear them from a mile away and the tire noise is part of it after the 8 inch straight out exhaust pipes. My other noise complaint is from the constant circling of small planes on nice summer days. I live close to a lake with lots of sun-bathers on sunny days. They are louder than any cars that drive past. If it's a cloudy day...no airplanes. (nothing for them to see) |

It’s been in a box since the engine is out. It’s gonna be one of the first things I put on after gettin her all wrapped up. Yup, got the insert just in case. From the install video, it was the sound I was looking for, as far as the HP increase, our SC’s Warp Core is long in the tooth so I’m not sure I would see an improvement. But still, I can’t wait. If I could only make the time I need to work on it….. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Wow!!! Did they sell you one of the “blems”???? I know that was an option when I purchased mine. I haven’t looked at it for some time but I do remember that the finish wasn’t on par with what I was expecting. Clamp marks and scratches. Now I am afraid to look at the inside….[emoji51] Especially for what I paid for the dang thing and the waaaaiiiiiitttttttttttt Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

actual burble tune sounds obnoxious, its like farts in a can.
And it does it continuously on decel. My Cayman ( no Illusions of grandeur here: its a base model 2.7 987), has no tune other than power tune to undo the tax neutering (211hp) and bring it to 10 something horses over the stock 245. Carnewal exhaust mod so it has a bit of sound, but no obnoxious drone like on open secondary cats. It will on decel, when engine braking, produce a bit of a bark and rumble in the exhaust Its very short and very specific .. it sounds a bit mean, kinda like the car means business and sounds nothing like a burble toon.. And I don't go around residential neighborhoods with WOT high revs.. Cause quite frankly , that's how the entire car culture is going to end up regulated : by causing nuisance to others. |
I wonder if my B&B headers at full chat would drown out their burble? (aka bubble lol)
Be fun trying. |
