In Philly lights and painted lines are merely suggestions.

Was behind a guy alongside the Red Line.
Watched him intentionally run at least 5 red lights in a row before i lost sight of him.

Everyone in Houston says people from Houston drive bad. I got news, there are not too many people in Houston that are from Houston.

I have lived in a few different places over the years and I don't think that Houston drivers are thaaaat bad. I think we are just very aggressive. I have come to enjoy it. I can't stand visiting san antone or DFW and the drivers are complacent.

My youngest lived in Philly for 7 years. Most of the time I drove to visit him. In Chicago, there are so many red-light cameras, you find yourself stopping when the light goes from yellow to red. Not in Philly, people actually speed up. There are so many one way streets, many make u turns in the middle of the street to get around.
On my first visit to Philly my son told me I am bound to get rear ended as I'm stopping at yellow lights. I quickly learned the Philly way of driving. The problem is, it doesn't work very well in Chicago. My worst driving experience was driving in Boston. There are very few roundabouts in Chicago. That took some getting use to them. From the movie "Starman" the stop light scene https://youtu.be/XX9ijD-0Rw4

I've also lived in several places in this country and others. Here's my list not necessarily in order: - Maryland in the DC area... just like Dallas too many people changing multiple lanes at one time going 10-15 MPH more than everyone else and usually driving Chevy Impala or Malibu - Oahu ... I swear rules do not apply, nor do lines, lights or anything else. Think of when Top Gear went to Vietnam - London ... crazy volume of traffic - Northern VA ... ditto San Antonio .... Used to be a small city. Now that it's grown, you have all sorts. People that go too slow for conditions are among the worst. Then there are those going fast and slow towing God knows what in all sorts of unsafe manner. Then there are the speeders that change multiple lanes at a time. The speed limit on the Interstates inside the city are way too high for conditions so when drivers add the extra 10ish MPH they are going 75 or greater inside of the city. Its a madhouse. Oh, and I forgot to add in the endless construction and some vehicles that are on their last leg and shouldn't be allowed on public roads. A few weeks ago I was heading to my office around 9am. I saw a tow truck (flatbed) with a vehicle on the flatbed and also towing a pickup truck on the bar out back by its rear wheels. The pickup lost its left rear wheel and began dragging on the brake rotor and the towtruck started swerving a little. Then the wheel that came off started heading down the highway on its own around 70mph. The wheel hit the concrete median and bounced very high changing direction and coming back north at the south bound traffic. After the second bounce I realize it was about to come down on my 996 Cabrio top. I picked up the pace, dodged a few cars, and got out of its path. Changed my pants when I got to the office.

I have been driving in Houston since I got my license in 1967. It used to be fun. But it has gotten progressively worse over the years. You tend to develop a tolerance and know what to expect but in the last five or so years, it is just crazy. Road rage is rampant. The LEOs tend not to pull over the crazy ones lest it ends up in a shoot out. At least that is my take on it.

All I can say is that is that I'm happy to be going the opposite direction most others are going and doing it at 4:30 in the morning. Still get a CF now and then. 45 in the southeast is generally a PITA (perpetual construction).

It's a good thing I've only got a couple years left before I check out of this madness one way or another. As it is, I hardly ever leave my zip code and it's small. Once in awhile I cross over the 405 and look down on another world. IF I have to use the freeway, I always leave at 10am and hope to be home by 11:30.
I haven't been to Los Angeles for years with the exception of being in the hospital at Cedars Sinai in 2020. L.A. is really another world. This from a guy that used to hit the Mulholland scene in the 2000's all the time. |

note to self: Open a brake+body shop in Houston. Also a gas station. And a used car lot with financing. Invest in local hospitals. I'd never make it there. Take out copious life insurance on self.

Way worse than Houston for me. I worked out of Naperville for eight years. Went there after Houston in the 90's.
On the days I had to work downtown in Chicago the drive in and out on 88 was the most intense white knuckle driving I have ever experienced. It was so fast and close I could not determine if Houston had worse drivers. Houston had occasional redneck idiots that would have been cancelled in Chicago highway driving. I'm stretching it some but I witnessed some scary road rage incidents in Chicago. The people were officially furious.

Boston is typically very aggressive which works. The wrench in the gears is usually someone from down south driving slowly/nicely.

The worst USA driving I ever saw was Puerto Rico. I'm in the right lane at a traffic and someone pulled onto the shoulder to be prepared to pass me on the right when it turned green. Then I noticed someone to HIS right getting ready to pass HIM when the light turned green.
Worst traffic so far, Bangalore. There is a pattern, but not that I could discern. The speed was low enough that any accident wouldn't be too bad. In Baroda (India) 35 years ago, the ride to work was pretty scary, but you would get used to it. In neither case did I ever drive in India.
