Porsche body engineers suck
I had to replace left front body acceleration sensor on the Cayenne today. It's located at the top of the wheel well so you pull the liner and it's a 3 minute job to replace from there. I have to call the dealership and get a quote on Monday just to see what they would charge to do it.
Anyway, at the back of well there are some wires and tubes in what looked like a small depression and saw some rust and some dirt, blew it out with air. It could have been a cutting room floor clipping from Dune 2 coming out soon. It wasn't a depression, it's a maybe 3/4" deep tray what was filled with wet sand. And rust. This is the exact same "tray" as in the nose of G-body 911s that collects sand and water and rusts out. I honestly don't understand how an engineer can essentially desingn a trough, in a wheel well, and not know that it will fill with dirt and debris and water and snow and salt and then rust. Going to media blast it out over Labor Day and epoxy prime and then get the Wurth schutz gun out. Not the best pics. Also figured out why I couldn't reset my brake light, last pic after removing some electrical tape. Cayennes are definitely following the 944/928 3rd, 4th owner syndrome from the 00's through a few years ago. So if you have a Cayenne, you may want to pull your wheel liners and blow these areas out, even in warm climates. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Ask any pro mechanic...they'll tell many examples of design engineers hatred of technicians.

Consider single stage / urethane paint and hardener, hit it with that after the epoxy paint. Any color - lol. Clear coat with hardener would be fine also.
Then schutz. More layers to keep out oxygen. Im speaking from no scientific basis whatsoever. Ohhh - Fluid Film over the Wurth/U-Pol stuff. Joking but would it hurt? My 81 had road crud (and some rust) packed up in the front inner fender in a spot which may be where you speak of. I did the same routine you are doing. I'm curious, is the problem area you talk of in the area of where the arrow is pointing? The corrosion was in the wheel well innards, not the outer panels. ![]()

Apparently you are unfamiliar with an extremely rare Porsche variant
Known as a 914, you may have heard of it

I took 3lbs out of the front of mine. PO lived on a gravel road. Fortunately, no rust. |

good advice Bob, thanks. I've got some Prussian Blue I can use, just need fresh hardener. I want to paint the whole truck someday, Prussian Blue may be a good option actually. I've tested fluid film and it works but that was on raw steel. It does of course wash away over time. That's another area but I am referencing this one. Tub is upside down on a rotisserie. This channel collects the same dirt and water as the one engineers made in my truck. It's of course the front bumper shock mount. Would have been easy to stamp the piece of steel to close the channel and they could have just tacked to the fender well and ran a bead of seam sealer to close it completely. ![]()

Rust is part of the Porsche brand, Porsche heritage. When I bought my '64 in 1969 the passenger's side floor was rusted clear through. I had to put in a piece of plywood to keep my girlfriend's feet off the pavement. Five years old and rusted out - Porsche.
