Look What Followed Me Home - R1200GSA

Well, we actually got home at the same time. 2012 BMW R1200GSA. 34K miles. $8200.

Very clean.

Nice! Is it drive-shaft driven? It looks brand new.
I don't know much about BMW bikes.

Yes. The driveshaft housing becomes the single-sided swingarm. Super cool.

Congrats. I rode mine to band practice in Payson, AZ and back yesterday. Next week I ride it to Evansville, IN for work, will leave it there, fly home, fly back a few weeks later and then ride it to a bachelor party in NOLA, then back home to Phoenix. I think it's going to need some love when I get back home.

Curious why a GSA? I am heavily involved with San Diego BMW MC club, even though I ride a KTM. We’re you looking for a GSA or just stumbled on a great deal?

Congrats, your gonna love it. I love my GSA. I've had a least 3 buddies ride mine and end up buying them.

I really don't think there is a better all around bike made. I've toured on it, I've adventure ridden it and I've ridden it on super twisty roads with dirt tires on and embarrassed competent
riders on sport bikes. AFTER 30K hard miles, all I've ever done is service it. The funny thing is before I really rode one, I hated them, thought they were ugly and really just didn't get it. My last friend to buy one, was the same way. Rode mine last year while we were on a 7 day street ride and couldn't believe it. Ordered a new one a month later, now I get a txt telling me how much he loves it, everytime he takes it out. Lol

If I could only have one bike in my garage, it would without a question be a GS.

Oh BTW, mine hasn't looked that clean since I left the dealership. Looks great!

Good question. This is my first boxer twin. Always admired them. Now I have the money and time. Did my homework and know a "camhead" is right for me. Was totally thinking R1200R but I also wanted touring capability. Most R1200R folks figured this out and many come with luggage and a windscreen. A "compromise" bike. I do NOT want an RT with the big full-body fairing.

Then I noticed how popular the GS bikes are. They are friggin' EVERYWHERE. Then this one came along. I thought it would be worth a try. We'll see. If not, I can prolly sell it in a heartbeat. She's a BIG girl and I'm not a big guy, so this fling might not work out but I will give her a fair shot. There will be little or no off-roading for us but many say the GS is ideal for everything including touring. Sort of like a swiss army knife.

It does ride nice, though. More nimble than you'd expect for a 564-lb bike. Convenient gearing. Pleasant clutch. Nice riding position. Good wind protection.

And it does have that grunt I was looking for. Pretty fun. I think this bike will, in fact, do anything. Like they say.

Wow! Cool bike Jim, congrats! I'll be out this spring to go for a ride!

Put 3 hours on my bike today going down to Newport. Love it! Hope you do yours as much I as do mine!

Is there a place for Lois?

There is a spot for Lois to sit, but I'm not sure she will want to sit there. Not so sure I want her to. Riding is dangerous and I...love her. Which raises the question of why I am riding. Lois loves Clark Kent too. Hmmm....

Oh, to be young and foolish like you. Instead of old and foolish like me.

I had a 2017 GSA a few years ago. My only gripe was helmet buffeting above 60 mph that I couldn’t fix short of just removing the windshield. But I hate windshields anyway.

I just put a larger Puig windscreen on my bike. The newer bikes have a knob you can use to crank the windscreen higher or lower. I can ride at triple digit speeds with my helmet visor up and barely feel a breeze. Not joking.
