Burning Man 2023

Thousands of people are stuck in the mud.
Porta potties not emptied.
Vehicle access denied.
One death reported
They tell you to be prepared, but not sure anyone planned for this.

So those protesters that were blocking folks from getting there were doing them a favor? ;)

It doesn't sound like much fun to me. It seems like the kind of thing that I might want to visit for a few hours to see it, and then leave.

Naked girls rolling in the mud. Nah….I’m too old.

It's only rain... More than 99.9% of them will be fine.

I’d love to say I cared about a bunch of drugged up liberals wandering in a (wet) desert.

But I’d be lying.

Crowbob 09-03-2023 05:36 PM

Yeah, you would be.

Everybody knows none of them are actually wandering at the moment.

masraum 09-03-2023 05:55 PM

A bunch of folks from the board have been multiple times, I believe going back years. I think the last time there was a thread here about it, a bunch of them said that it had gotten too big and well known and they were going to stop. I hope no one from the board was there this year.

It sounds like hell.

A bunch of "self reliant" Silicon Valley techies pretending to be "counter culture hippies" and finding out they are neither. The Schadenfreude runs deep.

I saw Chris rock made it 6 miles before tapping out and getting a ride.

flatbutt 09-04-2023 05:32 AM

It's not their parents' Woodstock.

VINMAN 09-04-2023 05:37 AM

Like a lot of things, commercialization has ruined it.

"Hey everybody! Let's go out and Cosplay that we're in a "post apocalyptic world" and then freak out when things go a bit sideways!".

Really? They had to hike 6 miles? Oh the horror. And it looks like it was all uphill.

Put that way, is is kinda funny.

It never had the slightest appeal to me. I can't possible care less about it. It is almost as important to me as the royal family soap opera.

One thing for sure, they received more publicity this year than any before.

Like everything, this is a tale of two cities, from Jeff's fragile Marxist bourgeoisie running for their lives to the proletariat Burners from years gone by, still trying, probably in vain, to keep Burning Man real, still enjoying the event.

One giant metaphor for the U.S. today.
