New 1/2 ton truck search

My truck was just rear ended and totaled. Was planning to drive it a couple hundred thousand miles but not in the cards for this truck. I typically lease and then buy out at the end of the lease. GM 1500 are also my brand of choice with 5.3 engines. That said any other options that you can think of?

I love my F250. I don't like the RAM, because the gear selector is a knob on the dash.

Seems like ford around are way over msrp. Rama are way under and GM seems to be right at

Get what you like to drive. If you're gonna drive to 200K, a few thousand either way amortizes. That said, dealers are all over the board with pricing. Try other dealers further away from you.

Glad everyone is ok!

I am on year 9 with my Tundra and still enjoy it...but ten years is a long time and I am sure the new trucks are great. My truck before that was an F-150 I had for ten years and put a lot of hard miles on. The difference in ride, handling, acceleration, etc. compared to the 2014 trucks I looked at was huge and stark.

I bought the Tundra really because I got a better deal from the local Toyota dealer. I have no plans on selling,

I like the look of the Chevy/GMC 1/2 tons, btw. The new Tundras look confusing, at least to me, but I am sure is a great truck.

I typically don't want the trim levels with all the nav/premium sound, etc...but I like heated seats. On the Tundra I bought the lower trim level and had cloth seats swapped in. with seat heat.

I saved about 5k doing that. Just something to think about.

Best!

I have a '11 Tundra limited 4x4. Crappy gas mileage (14 mpg if driving like an old lady) but tons of power and ultra reliable. Many guys where I work buy new Silverados every few years.... Luckily for them there is a Chevy dealership 1 mile down the road as most end up needing warranty work. My Tundra with 5.7 V8 has been trouble free. I only drive my Tundra when I need to haul or pull something so at 80,000 miles I plan to have it for a very long time.

I bought a 2021 GMC Sierra with the x31 package. I had a 2017 GMC and traded it in. Other than getting use to the new seat I really like this truck. Creature comforts and convivence were never a big deal to me but that tuck has everything but a sunroof and I am really liking it. I really like doing 65 and only turning 1400 RPMs. At 55 I'm only doing 1100 RPMs.

I had a 2012 Tundra and liked it a lot. I finally faced the truth, though, and admitted that it was a far larger truck than I needed.

As for the new ones, "confusing" is putting it mildly and, dare I say, euphemistically. I know Toyota has gone for the cutting edge look the last few years, but the new Tundra is just plain butt-ugly. On the other hand, I'm not a big fan of Chevrolet in general, but their new trucks are great looking.

If you hand it in after the lease buy what ever catches your eye.
Long term go with the Tundra.
That's what I did and 7 years later still happy.

I agree. If I didn’t own a farm I would not own a 1/2 ton.

After 16 years DD’ing a 1/2 ton the 1996 Land Cruiser was a revelation in terms of size and portability around town when I bought it almost 4 years ago.

You know, i used to think i needed a 1/2 ton truck as well. When the frame rusted on the F 150, I reflected on how ofter I had carried a serious load. After some thought, I added a hitch to the wife's Golf wagon and hook up a trailer for the times I need to carry something larger. If the load is too big for the trailer, I rent.
No regrets. Your situation may be vastly different.

Best

The ford 6.2l gas are pretty stout.
I'm shy of 400k on the one my mother drives. Original drive train.

All the newer (last decade +) 1/2 ton trucks are HUGE compared to my ancient F150. Makes it look like an old Ranger next to a newer one of any make. It's "tired", and I keep looking .... thinkin' that mebbe I don't really "need" a truck these daze .... rent when necessary, etc.

But then I read the thread about all the BS that's on newer stuff....

I luv my old truck .... warts and all

I like my 2016 F150 with 3.5 Ecoboost. Easy to maintain, more than enough power for my needs and I can get 17-21 mpg if I'm easy on the accelerator.

I hated it. But then I got used to it and forgot about it.
The Ram is ok, right up to when you try to tow. They require a WDH for any tongue weight over #500. As do the 250s and the 350s. It towed a #7500 trailer worse than either of my Touaregs. And no that’s not hyperbole.

My next one will be a 24 GMC/Chevy. I like the new screen, and I want surround cameras and adaptive cruise control.

I really was interested in those until I learned you had to remove the cab for the cam sensor. That was enough for me to say no as I do all my own service.

I don't suppose you guys consider a Honda Ridgeline as a 1/2 ton pickup, do you?
