I ordered a bunch of emergency repair spares and had them shipped to the seller. I will probably change the oil before I drive it too far. It is rougher than that photo shows but will be an enjoyable project with my son.

I’m looking forward to it… and the adventure driving an unknown 57 year old car home…

Rule number one of such a road trip. You won't need any of the spare parts you carry.

That looks very clean and original... Well done. :)

But is the rubber antenna OEM?

Just a suggestion. Enjoy your new car!

I picked up the car today, its a bit ratty but all there.

Everything sorta fell into place... I told one of my buddies about it, he replied by sending me a photo of his dad's 66 mustang that he's owned since 1980. And his dad lives 20 minutes fro where the car was.

Long story short, his dad picked me up at the airport and took me to the car, then we went to his place to do a thorough check over, change the oil, fix a leaking fuel line, change the fuel filters, cap, rotor, wiper blades and I was on my way. I've driven 6 hours so far... I'm about 1/2 way home.

I love a good road trip

Cool story. I wanted to do the same. I recently bought one from FL and wanted to drive it home to LA. The seller talked me out of it and for good reason. The tires had 2007 date code. If I got it up to speed I could probably skate from Las Vegas to LA if I could lock up the brakes. That wasn't likely because the single pot M/C was essentially made of rust. The parking brake cables were frozen and the rear shoe automatic adjusters were MIA. I thought the 4 speed box was shot but it turns out it's ok, just more nuanced than a 901 box.

Quick stop for a photo somewhere in Saskatchewan…

Any problems would have shown in those 6 hours...Looks like you got a good one! :)

Does the radio sorta kinda work? Part of the fun is half-receiving distant AM stations. My radio didn't work at all. I replaced it with a modern digital one but made to look old. The dash speaker was also impressively crappy.

That's a pre-crowd dispersion mode programmed car. Should be fine.

My folks had a 65 289 4 barrel 4 spd when I learned to drive.

For American Iron of that vintage, there are a lot of plusses.

Enjoy! Perfect project for Father / Son. Congrats.

I made it home. It seems to be quite happy at 65-75 MPH. Gets decent mileage, and handles like the Queen Mary in a following sea. Really big cross winds the last 80 miles…

Glad it ran well, I would drive mine about 17 hours to college and it did ok on gas as well.

That handling can be improved...the aftermarket is huge. Have fun! SmileWavy
