oh yes I did.

Zeke 08-25-2010 12:12 PM

Sam, what do we call you now, archivist?

nostatic 08-25-2010 12:25 PM

i still have two of the t-shirts that i wear regularly

911pcars 08-25-2010 01:04 PM

GRuppies. However, doesn't that connote a follower rather than a leader? Besides, being a gruppie is overrated.

LOL, no. was looking for something that was posted a long time ago and stumbled accross these old threads and cracked up, so I figured I'd revive a few.
Maybe I'm just getting no-stalgic. Like No-static but speeled different.

It did kinda remind me how things were different back then, more polite, less bickerin'.

Now get off my lawn! ;)

LOL, this was from 7 years ago, Tabs and the OT forum were famous even then! ;)

sammyg2 08-25-2010 01:45 PM

Ya know, I could always revive the original SCWDP thread from Leland Pate, even though it's still in the 911 technical forum.

(I can imagine the poopy-head moderators scrambling right now to lock it before I get a chance to bump it) ;)

Remember when someone said that everyone who owned an SC was an old doctor, so we all put Dr. in our signatures and people thought we actually were?

red-beard 08-25-2010 02:18 PM

Thats Dr. Red-beard to you...

Cold Land camp established...

Dear fellow Gruppe B warriors,

I know it took a long time (8 years!) before I give news but I can now officially let you know that our Cold Land camp is now established.

Well, I'm back on the Pelican Parts BBS after these many years. When I left, I had just traveled with my '75 Targa from San Jose to Ottawa in 2003 . I moved to Montreal and went for the inspection to get my Quebec licence plate. Unfortunately, my Targa didn't pass the inspection. Since then, it stayed in my garage.

Then, I divorced, got married again, had a new job, did home remodeling, had two other kids, etc... So since 2003, the 911 stayed in the garage without any attention from my part.

Last fall, I was diagnosed with cancer. Since I'm no longer working, I now have plenty of time to bring my 911 back to life. I'm doing the work with my 16 years old son. If I don't succeed against cancer, that 911 will then belong to my son.

It really feels good to be back on this BBS...

Alain

MotoSook 07-15-2011 07:17 AM

Wow Alain! Sorry for all the bumps in the road, but it looks like you,re dealing wit it all in positive way. Congrats on the marriage and kids! I also got married and had kids....hence my off and on posting on Pelican.

I had to go back and read the thread...but wow! What a blast from the past. I haven't seen my 76 like this in almost 10 years! I miss it in that form :(

Very nice to get your message dear Soukus (weren't you simply called Souk previously?). Congrats for the marriage and the kids for you too!

Jim Richards 07-15-2011 10:36 AM

Best wishes on your health, Alain.

Souk, you Bastard. This thread brings back fond memories. I need to make another trek out you way one of these days. :)

tabs 07-15-2011 11:24 AM

Sorry to hear about your illlness. It is a very good thing to spend time with your son, to be doing something with him that he will remember for the rest of his life with fondness.

5String43 07-15-2011 12:29 PM

My new favorite post!

MotoSook 07-15-2011 12:36 PM

Yep and thank you!

Simple world domination. Then we will demand a ransom.

Three ... MILLION... dollars.

911 tweaks 02-11-2014 03:40 PM

Three million dollars is not that much money these days. The SCWDP give more than that to charity each year.

As a 996 owner now (the ULTIMATE BASTARD Porsche... prove me wrong), I think it's time to resurrect this Gruppe... or at least this thread. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/beerchug.gif

So what would the new group name be? 996WDP? FEHWDP? (fried-egg-headlights)

It can't still be SCWDP if it's open to cars besides SCs.

Wow….got an email notice out of the blue for this thread…haven’t been on here in ages. But! I now have a 996 too, but I still have the Original Bastard. Of course now a bastardized old aircooled 911 is called custom, re-imaged or restomods :)

GH85Carrera 11-28-2023 06:19 AM

Wow, it is cool to see the names from the past.

Yeah a few are mia or have left us. :(
I've been in 10 different car clubs in my car life.
VWs, Porsches, street rods, RC car club and now vintage racing club.
The petty inner politics of most these experiences led to me moving on.
As they say don't pick your friends by the cars they drive. ;)

Baz 11-28-2023 07:02 AM

I still have my SC - in restoration - and hopefully will be back on the road one day......

I've been here for over 20 years and didn't know that. But I remember folks calling each other 'doctor' and I did it too. How stupid is that? I didn't even know why.

Playing a game and trying to fit in. Now I don't give a rat's ass.

I have dozens of real friends from my involvement in PCA. Mostly local, but real friends from the Florida Keys to Vermont and Alaska.

Certainly there are a few people that are jerks, but for the most part, like the PCA motto, it is the people not the cars.

Happy for you that you found a club you like. :)
Car clubs have the same dynamics as a local PTA or a condo association.

You got me there... almost bought one once but ultimately didn't.

I do have a long proud history of cars that were deemed "not real Porsches" in their day though... '69 912 (not enough cylinders), '72 911 T targa (OMG, a targa! NO ONE likes THOSE!), 87 924S (a 924, 'nuff said), '75 911S (dreaded and unloved mid-year 911... run away!), '79 911 SC targa (Frankensteined into a wide-body full cabriolet in the 1980s when that was in vogue), '07 Cayman base (not a 911... not an S...) and now the '01 Carrera (Water-cooled?!? Headlights!!! IMS!!!)...

If there ever was an enthusiast born to be an outlier, it's the bastard typing out this post. SmileWavy
