Sam, what do we call you now, archivist?
|
i still have two of the t-shirts that i wear regularly
|
GRuppies. However, doesn't that connote a follower rather than a leader? Besides, being a gruppie is overrated.

Maybe I'm just getting no-stalgic. Like No-static but speeled different. It did kinda remind me how things were different back then, more polite, less bickerin'. Now get off my lawn! ;) |

Ya know, I could always revive the original SCWDP thread from Leland Pate, even though it's still in the 911 technical forum.
(I can imagine the poopy-head moderators scrambling right now to lock it before I get a chance to bump it) ;) Remember when someone said that everyone who owned an SC was an old doctor, so we all put Dr. in our signatures and people thought we actually were? |
Thats Dr. Red-beard to you...

Cold Land camp established...
Dear fellow Gruppe B warriors,
I know it took a long time (8 years!) before I give news but I can now officially let you know that our Cold Land camp is now established. Well, I'm back on the Pelican Parts BBS after these many years. When I left, I had just traveled with my '75 Targa from San Jose to Ottawa in 2003 . I moved to Montreal and went for the inspection to get my Quebec licence plate. Unfortunately, my Targa didn't pass the inspection. Since then, it stayed in my garage. Then, I divorced, got married again, had a new job, did home remodeling, had two other kids, etc... So since 2003, the 911 stayed in the garage without any attention from my part. Last fall, I was diagnosed with cancer. Since I'm no longer working, I now have plenty of time to bring my 911 back to life. I'm doing the work with my 16 years old son. If I don't succeed against cancer, that 911 will then belong to my son. It really feels good to be back on this BBS... Alain |
Wow Alain! Sorry for all the bumps in the road, but it looks like you,re dealing wit it all in positive way. Congrats on the marriage and kids! I also got married and had kids....hence my off and on posting on Pelican.
I had to go back and read the thread...but wow! What a blast from the past. I haven't seen my 76 like this in almost 10 years! I miss it in that form :( Quote:

Very nice to get your message dear Soukus (weren't you simply called Souk previously?). Congrats for the marriage and the kids for you too!
|
Best wishes on your health, Alain.
Souk, you Bastard. This thread brings back fond memories. I need to make another trek out you way one of these days. :) |
Sorry to hear about your illlness. It is a very good thing to spend time with your son, to be doing something with him that he will remember for the rest of his life with fondness.

My new favorite post!
|
Yep and thank you!

What a blast from the past. The bastards have scattered but we're just laying low waiting to strike! Quote:

Three million dollars is not that much money these days. The SCWDP give more than that to charity each year. |
As a 996 owner now (the ULTIMATE BASTARD Porsche... prove me wrong), I think it's time to resurrect this Gruppe... or at least this thread. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/beerchug.gif

It can't still be SCWDP if it's open to cars besides SCs. |

Wow, it is cool to see the names from the past.

I've been in 10 different car clubs in my car life. VWs, Porsches, street rods, RC car club and now vintage racing club. The petty inner politics of most these experiences led to me moving on. As they say don't pick your friends by the cars they drive. ;) |
I still have my SC - in restoration - and hopefully will be back on the road one day......

Certainly there are a few people that are jerks, but for the most part, like the PCA motto, it is the people not the cars. |

Car clubs have the same dynamics as a local PTA or a condo association. |

I do have a long proud history of cars that were deemed "not real Porsches" in their day though... '69 912 (not enough cylinders), '72 911 T targa (OMG, a targa! NO ONE likes THOSE!), 87 924S (a 924, 'nuff said), '75 911S (dreaded and unloved mid-year 911... run away!), '79 911 SC targa (Frankensteined into a wide-body full cabriolet in the 1980s when that was in vogue), '07 Cayman base (not a 911... not an S...) and now the '01 Carrera (Water-cooled?!? Headlights!!! IMS!!!)... If there ever was an enthusiast born to be an outlier, it's the bastard typing out this post. SmileWavy |
