Who will be the new Bruins captain?
Yeah, I know it is still summer but I'm starting to go through hockey withdrawal symptoms.
Bruce Cassidy said Marchand would have been his choice. https://www.hockeyfeed.com/nhl-news/bruce-cassidy-names-his-choice-for-next-bruins-captain I wonder if that will hurt Marchand's chances (pride or jealousy by the new coach). Wadda ya think?

I never liked Marchand due solely to his antics. His skill is not in question but can he lead by "good" example? The captain needs to set the mood in addition to providing the spark when the team is down. His recent behavior has been more in line with that so I'd give him a shot at the "C".

I don't understand the fascination with the 'C'. Or the hockey purpose.
Referees used to only talk to the captain. Now? They talk to every player, coaches, and anyone on the bench. Players know who the leaders are. The 'C' is not about hockey, it's about a person's ability to speak to the media night in and night out, and not make a major PF gaff.

The "C' is also a sign of respect within the team. Kinda sorta like when my team always waited for me to lead them out onto the ice and then skated by whacking my leg pads for luck.
