The guy on the lift next to me had just finished his first 911 engine rebuild. He climbed into the car to start it and the second it lit off I through the metal lid of a hand cleaner can into the metal parts sink between us and near the rear of his car. I nonchalantly stood at the back of my car watching as he quickly turned his off and ran to the back of it looking panic stricken…then he saw me laughing. I can be a real jerk…still feel bad about doing that and it was probably 30+ years ago. (He’s still my buddy today)!

In first year engineering we had a math prof that was not well liked. So, I hollowed the end of a piece of blackboard chalk and inserted three match heads, then put some plaster on to cover up my work.

I got to math lecture early, removed all the chalk, except for my piece, and wrapped some masking tape on the unmodified end, just to make sure he wrote with the right end.

The prof came in, picked up my chalk, wrote the title, then underlined it with areal flourish...as he finished the underlining the match heads all lit and they flared up about 6". Hilarity ensued.

I can still picture it, his sh-itttty polyester sports jacket, the flame held high and at arms length, his eyes bulging. Priceless. And ten times better than I had ever hoped for.

I was a legend in the engineering school for the next four years...my friends still talk about it.

There was a thing that you could buy from "thinkgeek" that seems to be NLA. The Annoyatron. I think there were 2 or 3 iterations. In the first, I think it made a noise periodically. In a subsequent version, I think it had something like 20 different sounds that it made, and you could set it to randomly cycle through those sounds, and also play them at random intervals which made it harder to find. I worked at a place with a really annoying "network security" guy. Someone hid one in his cube once. I think it took him hours to eventually find it.

Way back when pagers were a thing, some guys set one to vibrate, duct taped it above the ceiling on top of a metal light fixture and then called it when the guy wasn’t in his office; setting up the reminder buzz that went off at a pre set interval.

When I worked at the railways a work buddy could see a friends office across the way. He would phone him and watch him walk across the room then hang up before he answered the phone. As soon as he sat down he would phone him again, and again.
