WIBTAH if .....

I went up to the supermarket, bought a loaf of bread, brought it home, toasted the entire thing, put it all back in the bag then took it back to the store and put it back on the shelf?

Some might consider you a genius! Pre toasted bread! What a time saver.

stevej37 09-22-2023 12:13 PM

uhh...wouldn't that be larceny?

I paid for the loaf.

I wouldn't do a return for the money back, just sneak it back on the shelf.

But the person who bought it would be out $$$ so maybe I'd slip five bucks in there to make up for it.

stevej37 09-22-2023 12:23 PM

Ok...yes, no refund would exclude larceny. :)

Wth is WIBTAH??

masraum 09-22-2023 12:24 PM

It might be funny if you could stake it out and watch reactions.

The problem is that bread changes when it's toasted, so it would look really funny when you put it back in the bag. Actually, it probably wouldn't all fit back in the bag.

Good point. So, maybe use a biscuit cutter to remove just a disc out of each slice (not the the heels!), toast those discs, put 'em back in the slices, assemble the loaf back in the bag (along with the fiver) and put that on the shelf.

There's a reddit group similar - https://www.reddit.com/r/AmIthe*******/

After the tainting of some medicines in the '70's, I believe, I'm sure it became quite a serious crime to alter food and medicine and put it back into the aisle. This is when sealed containers became the norm.

If you want cold toast, just move to England.

One hotel I used regularly made the toast the night before...

id10t 09-23-2023 05:07 AM

Would be OK if you added some seasonings and put it on the salad dressing isle with the croutons and fake bacon bits

With no reflection on the OP, if you have ask if WIBTAH then the answer is probably 'yes'

KFC911 09-23-2023 12:11 PM

I would be really pissed if I got home with a loaf of toast. I am one of the people that just don't understand toast. Why take a perfectly good piece of bread, and dry it out so completely it is partially burned? I would be cussing, and especially knowing some yahoo had handled my food that was supposed to be bakery fresh.

So, no not a hoot at all.

Glen, you don't toast burger buns? I do because they don't soak up moisture from what's inside. People have their particular way of building a burger. I put the 1000 island on the bun. I like it toasted.

Peanut butter on toast. Wheat bread with butter and jam — toasted. I hate it when I'm at breakfast and the toast comes late and it's wimpy. No tip for that meal.

asphaltgambler 09-23-2023 04:12 PM

Well technically, you have labor involved to toast the whole loaf of bread so you need to factor the net loss of that.

wdfifteen 09-23-2023 06:59 PM

Steven Wright might make a joke about that. But if you actually did it, yeah, You Be The A-hole.

I didn't know there were such people.
As my grandmother used to say, "takes all kinds."

I love the texture of toast. Really good toasted bread is crunchy and warm on the outside and a bit chewy in the middle.
Toasted white bread is an abomination. White bread is only good for tomato sandwiches, and no known human would toast a tomato sandwich.
