WIBTAH if .....
I went up to the supermarket, bought a loaf of bread, brought it home, toasted the entire thing, put it all back in the bag then took it back to the store and put it back on the shelf?

Some might consider you a genius! Pre toasted bread! What a time saver. |
uhh...wouldn't that be larceny?

I wouldn't do a return for the money back, just sneak it back on the shelf. But the person who bought it would be out $$$ so maybe I'd slip five bucks in there to make up for it. |
Ok...yes, no refund would exclude larceny. :)
Wth is WIBTAH?? |
It might be funny if you could stake it out and watch reactions.
The problem is that bread changes when it's toasted, so it would look really funny when you put it back in the bag. Actually, it probably wouldn't all fit back in the bag. |

After the tainting of some medicines in the '70's, I believe, I'm sure it became quite a serious crime to alter food and medicine and put it back into the aisle. This is when sealed containers became the norm.

If you want cold toast, just move to England.
One hotel I used regularly made the toast the night before... |
Would be OK if you added some seasonings and put it on the salad dressing isle with the croutons and fake bacon bits
|
With no reflection on the OP, if you have ask if WIBTAH then the answer is probably 'yes'
|
LOL ..... WIBTAH ... who knew? I could have been using this thread starter for years ... might even change my name....
WIBTAH911 :D |
I would be really pissed if I got home with a loaf of toast. I am one of the people that just don't understand toast. Why take a perfectly good piece of bread, and dry it out so completely it is partially burned? I would be cussing, and especially knowing some yahoo had handled my food that was supposed to be bakery fresh.
So, no not a hoot at all. |
Glen, you don't toast burger buns? I do because they don't soak up moisture from what's inside. People have their particular way of building a burger. I put the 1000 island on the bun. I like it toasted.
Peanut butter on toast. Wheat bread with butter and jam — toasted. I hate it when I'm at breakfast and the toast comes late and it's wimpy. No tip for that meal. |
Well technically, you have labor involved to toast the whole loaf of bread so you need to factor the net loss of that.
|
Steven Wright might make a joke about that. But if you actually did it, yeah, You Be The A-hole.

As my grandmother used to say, "takes all kinds." I love the texture of toast. Really good toasted bread is crunchy and warm on the outside and a bit chewy in the middle. Toasted white bread is an abomination. White bread is only good for tomato sandwiches, and no known human would toast a tomato sandwich. |

I can't remember the last time that I had anything other than some sort of whole grain bread.

I never toast the whole wheat bread for my sandwiches. Just another messy step to make crumbs and a mess to clean up. I prefer soft fresh whole wheat bread. And at restaurants when I order a hamburger, if the bun is toasted so much it is brown, I just toss the bun and eat the rest with a knife and fork. |
I can only eat Tuna or Egg Salad on toasted bread even though I'm not really a fan of toast.

This is true of most all appliances today. Even most cars. |

and I have never been in a BBQ joint that serves anything but white bread (and cheap white bread usually) and I have been in a LOT of BBQ joints here in the great state of TX. |

Supposedly, someone went to the grocery store and bought these and found them packed with meth. I suspect it is really a DEA or smuggler that was caught, but who knows. |
Some great responses, but Heywood Banks did it best, with "Toast:" (3.3 million views):

Why not just make a P&J sandwich out of a couple of slices and put it back in the loaf?

Given the Tylenol debacle...twenty or thirty years ago...putting stuff back on the shelf might involve higher scrutiny.
Unless that involves bio-hazards and licking ice cream. And then posting it on social media. To be repeated as a trend. |
The last post froze my computer for a good 30sec.

The only white bread I eat is a hamburger bun. I can't eat a whole wheat bun as a burger. Something else, yes. It's just a habit. I like sourdough bread. Is that white? I don't count it in if it is. Rationalization. The store has wheat sourdough. Bought that by mistake once and IDT we ate much of it. What's the point? I'll have to remember 'maillard'. |
