James Bond has been dead for quite a while

Any news about a new "Bond", or are they fini.

This may have been discussed here already, if so I missed it.

masraum 09-28-2023 08:00 AM

I think it was discussed back around the time the last one came out, but I don't think anything since.

I think the movie industry is having to rethink things because streaming and covid has changed the world.

Also, the last few Mission Impossible movies have been pretty stiff competition for Bond, IMO.

The next Bond will probably Jane Bond.

The last movie killed James Bond for me. I grew up loving Bond films and no matter what I will not be watching any new movies they put out

everything since "Skyfall" has been crap. Would love to see a re-boot where Bond is not in the modern-era, but performing missions in the 1950s and 1960s.

I think statements came out after the last Bond that said that would not be the case.

I liked Spectre.

Great idea, sort of like the reboot of Man from UNCLE, which I really enjoyed.

I was rooting for Idris, but I guess it was decided he was too old. There will be a new (male) James Bond. It's a very valuable franchise.

I did not like Skyfall at all. James Bond failed at every single part of his job and did what the bad guys wanted to happen.

Bond is supposed to save the world when confronted with overwhelming insane odds of success, and end up with a gorgeous woman in bed.

Alan A 09-28-2023 10:48 AM

And that's the problem.

Bond was a fun movie with gadgets and a spy that every guy wanted to be and every woman wanted to be with.

Now we have guys that aren't sure if they are girls and girls that don't want guys, space age gadgets are commonplace and CGI has taken place of fun in film.

So that leaves Bond with an aging demographic and desperately pandering to try to gain new audience. Which makes for terrible terrible films.

That's sounds like a good idea.

I know Craig was popular here, but never was my favorite.

That would be a real departure since every film has been in the modern time.

I liked Casino Royale but not much since. Sean Connery will always be tops but George Lazenby in "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" is my favorite Bond film.

Its hard to compare them since they are spread across decades and the films varied in many ways. Craig's Bond was more gritty, Moore's era had bad jokes and puns (and he had big cans), Connery's was iconic and original. The muddy middle was Brosnan and Dalton.

Sort of like saying Jordan was the GOAT of NBA or Hamilton in F1. Not sure how you can compare since there was also Larry Bird, Magic, Bill Russell, Dr. J, and for F1 Senna, Clark, Schumi, and others. Each was great in their own time.

cockerpunk 09-28-2023 12:12 PM

bond is always some kind for hero for his age.

Daniel Craig was for sure a post 9/11 bond for example. and brosnen was very much an 1990s, end of history bond.

the next bond will also be of our age. we will see what they do with that.

I don't think I'd EVER seen the GL film until about 10-15 years ago. I caught it because some cable channel used to show Bond marathons either during the Thanksgiving holiday or Christmas or maybe both. I thought that movie and GL were excellent! It's definitely one of my favorites, but I don't have one, there are several.

Grace Jones perhaps...

Now where's that green font button.

cockerpunk 09-28-2023 12:19 PM

i would love to see a woman bond, particularly Gillian Anderson. her character in the fall was pretty much a james bond knock off anyway. i think she'd be amazing.

but i doubt it, and they have confirmed the next bond wont be a woman.

i could see the next bond being less gritty, as we seem to be in a bit of marvel/unrealistic escapism phase of things. bond does well during these times i think, its always been easier to do a less serious bond, than a more serious bond.
