Annoying floater…

I’ve had a few clear eye floaters in the past, but a dark eye floater appeared a couple days ago.

At first, I thought it was a small fly in my face or on my glasses. Took me a few minutes to realize it was a floater. Sometimes when I start looking at it, I feel like I’m chasing my tail. Looking online, there doesn’t seem to be much you can do about them.

Anybody else with floaters?

I had lens replacement in both eyes. While I don’t need glasses for long distance any longer I have floaters and ghosts. I was told that nothing can be done.

Ditto...toss in age related macular degeneration and glaucoma? Hooboy do I get floaters! Especially after an eye injection...Huge solid black ones. I'm jealous of your great distance vision. Because of my other problems, I still need glasses...the cataract surgery was a disappointment for me.

Don’t jack around with your vision. Ophthalmologists are on weekend call for good reasons.

If you are over 60, chances are you have floaters. Most are tiny and your brain ignores them most of the time. Occasionally you will get a larger one which may annoy the heck out of you for days, weeks or months before it might settle out.
However. As mentioned above, a floater may be a symptom of a more serious condition. Get it checked out.

I have played hockey with several annoying floaters.
Always hanging out at the blue line waiting for a pass and neglecting their defensive duties...

My dad had some big floaters that turned into blinds (bad term) being dropped in his vision. Turned out to be a detached retina. He had it repaired and retained his vision in that eye.

I, too, find dead fish annoying.

I have had a dark floater in my right eye for about five years. Eventually my brain started ignoring it and I don't see it unless I focus on it.
When I brought it up to my Optometrist he said there is nothing to do about it. But if you have flashes of light in your eyes, especially at the extremes of your vision, you should go to an ER immediately. That could be a detached retina.

Is it a floater or a dark spot that is stationary? I was watching TV one day and all of the sudden my vision got blurry and a dark spot appeared in the lower field of vision of my left eye. I called my doctor and he said come in immediately. Turned out to be a retinal occlusion which is a blockage of the artery supplying blood to the eye. Doctor says caused by high blood pressure or diabetes of which I have neither so he could not explain it. Luckily it turned out to be in the vein and not the artery. The doctor sent me to a specialist who said we should wait it out instead of treating it which would require shots in the eye. Luckily it cleared up for the most part after about 6 months. Either way go to the doctor ASAP eye sight is not something you want to play with. Hope it all works out well for you

This. I never had them until a couple of years ago and they insist it’s no biggie (I’m 76). Rocket is right…at first I thought it was noseeums flying around my face. I had a big one awhile back and they checked for detached retina but all is ok.

As mentioned above, go see a retina specialist. I had a significant floater in my right eye. The optometrist told me it may go away or not- part of aging.

Well... about 1 year later I went completely blind in my right eye while sitting at a car show talking with friends. Kind of scary. Went to the retina specialist and I had suffered a completely detached retina. Emergency surgery, 2.5 hours with a team of 4, 1 month and 1 day ago, and I have vision in that eye now but it is still like looking through really thick glass. I go back in 5 months for a second surgery and hopefully that restores more of my vision in that eye. They filled my eye with oil and they said they will change that out during the next surgery. It's not easy getting old.

I’m making an appointment in the morning.

Thinking about it more, the night before the floater appeared, I noticed that I had what I think is the ocular migraine. I could see sparkles in my right eye (same eye as the floater).

Edit. I’ll be 65 in February.
