Anyone use an Amazon price tracker?

Anyone use one? I haven't looked too hard, but I have a search queued up and will do some research. Sometimes prices on Amazon can vary A LOT. At times prices can go down 25-75% on certain items. It's nice to be able to order those (if you want/need them) when that happens.

Yesterday was a very interestiing day for me and I learned a lot about retail I had forgotten.

Omega started running wonky while mowing yesterday.

I have some surgeries coming up and I decided to go get a Casio watch and send the Omega in. The light and timing fnction os excellent of pre-op/post-op meds, etc.

Sure.

I needed the watch yesterday or I would, as I always do, order online. I have not be in anything other than a FAPS on HW/feed store much at all in the past three/four years.

How hard can this be? First stop, the Catch-All local HW store. Watches? Nope.Walgreens, Nope. CVS, Nope.

I decide to CALL Walmart. Yes do but our selection isn't great.

Very helpful young man gets me to the watch section and the $31 watch I am looking for. He tells me WM is getting out of a lot of the of a lot of markets like cheap watches because they just don't sell.

Amazon hammers them in certain areas. Retail numbers are godlike, BTW, and tracked like Secretariat.

I have zippy anngst with Wally, I would just prefer never do it again.

When we were first getting our company up and running, I was buying a lot of parts and pieces to upgrade computers, a printer, reams of paper, and lots of hard drives. Amazon sent me an email, and they asked if I was interested in a business account. I had to give them the company W-9 and I signed up and it is all free, no membership fee. No video or music streaming, just shopping.

My wife sometimes looks up an item we need, and gets a price on her regular Amazon account, and sends me a link to that item. My business prices is sometimes lower by a decent percentage. Sometime no difference in price.

It is weird how some items I buy regularly, like sunscreen can have huge prices variation, even when I use the buy it again option. It has gone up a lot, or back a lot cheaper. Just strange.

Yeah, Amazon spams me with the business account emails. We're not a business, so no go.

But yes, prices can vary A LOT from time to time. That's why when I check "buy it again" I also do a regular search to see if I can find another option. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I also have noticed that if I stick an item in the cart and the missus says "don't order yet, I want to add a couple of things," if it sits like that for 2-3 days, the price often goes up by a few cents. Occasionally, the price will drop by a bit. I have no double that Amazon has algorithms that figure "item has been in his cart for X amount of time, drop the price a bit to see if he buys it" and then after a bit more "still in his cart, he's probably going to buy it eventually, just jack the price up a few cents from when he added it.

With millions of customers and millions and millions of orders, I suspect they make quite a bit extra by changing the prices a few cents here and there. If the prices changes a lot, I may wait until it goes back down to a more normal price.

And those changes (sometimes huge) are why I'm curious about a price tracker.

We no longer live near a Whole Foods, so some times, certain items, we'll get from Amazon. Sometimes it's $10 from Amazon vs $13 in store. Sometimes an item will be $18 on Amazon vs $16 in store. Just yesterday, I saw an item that we needed, in store $17, from Amazon $19, slightly different item (same roast, different flavor of coffee) on Amazon for $7 (and sold by Amazon). So we bought a 6 at that price. The vacuum sealed bags will stay good in the cupboard, I'm pretty sure, at least, good enough at that price.

One of the weirdest price jumps was for some toothpaste that our local grocery store stopped carrying. I am not going to try various other stores looking for it, so I went to Amazon and typical it was a two tubes at a time. I eventually used it up, and searched for my old orders, and selects order it again. I went to my shopping cart and my finger was over the mouse button and I looked and the price was $55.00. Full stop, it was just a few bucks before, and now (middle of Covid) it is 55? Nope not gonna do it. I changed to another brand and never looked back.
