FBMP vs eBay

Needed to get a Milwaukee M12 hammer drill. Several on FBMP all well over $100, arranged to buy one today, guy I bought it from arranged to have it dropped off (cash on del), it wasn't the one in the ad, it was an M18. Ad was down but it was definitely an M12 I saw in the ad. Scam? Who knows. But anyway, it was new, negotiated from $150 ask to $120. Suffice it to say, deal didn't go through.

Just checked eBay. There are a lot of these hammer drills, new from mulit-kits, posted by sellers with 99.X+% and 100% positive reviews fro, get this, $64.95 to $111.95 and higher.

I bought one of the $64.95 ones. Looking forward to seeing what I'm getting.

I love FBMP but will be looking more at eBay too.

I hate FBMP. Everything is through Facebook, which I rarely use, and the search functionality SUCKS. I can search for a Mercedes SL55 and have ads for prom dresses intermixed. You also lose your filters with each search, so each search is a new search. There’s also a limited number of categories to help narrow things down. I think of it like a garage sale, you may find a treasure but there’s going to be some digging required.

I buy quite a bit of stuff on EBay and have never had an issue. Including used auto parts that can definitely be hit or miss. I stick with highly rated sellers that have a return policy. Unlike FBMP you also have some recourse in terms of EBay mediation and ratings.

I just bought another Interceptor from CL.

And a very good condition used fuel tank from eBay.

Working on another big parts deal from CL.

FBMP hasn't come through lately - but have used it before.

I don't purchase much from either, but I have purchased from both. Most of my FB purchasing has been via a group that's specifically for buying/selling of a particular type of item, and purchases through that group have been great. I did just buy a stove from FBMP. The guy that I bought from was moderate at communications, but once I got face to face with the folks doing the selling (his parents who were in their 80s) it was very smooth.

Many/most folks are just bad communicators, and that makes buying and selling hard.

I don't think I've ever had a problem with an ebay purchase either.

There's a lot of fake Milwaukee tools out there. They end up on eBay and Amazon, and I suppose also on FBMP. Search Youtube for examples. Fake batteries too.

I will say I've never worried about getting robbed when ordering something off eBay, but I've been to a bunch of sketchy places picking up stuff from FBMP and Craigslist.

I thought I was the only one that would get those stupid thirst trap prom dress/mirror listings... lol That's the reason I'm off all social media, stupid stuff I don't want to look at.

As for OT, eBay and Amazon is full of counterfeits. Even the products priced within the correct price range are questionable if they're not authorized reseller(s).

First time I've ever seen a bra for one of this! Will replace the tank and add a new Motobatt battery, which I already have.

Seller is a mechanic who already went through everything else incl. carbs. 1 hour drive to pick up. Also has the Yosh muffler!

Hard to pass up......

I just listed a snowblower on craigslist because fb wants a cell # to confirm identity and I dont have a damn cell phone. We'll see how it goes maybe all the weirdos that were on there went to fb now.

As a casual buyer I have used FBMP , CL and eBay . Knock on wood no real issues to speak of . But I am very careful , if it's too good to be true I don't bother . I will say to me it seems like eBay has slowly upped their game . CL isn't as popular by me but I still look there . All of these sites have positives and negatives .

I'm a big fan of M12 tools. The fact that I have only one battery group (same base but different amp hours) keeps me locked in. I started with the driver/drill kit new and have added refurb's from Amazon as I go. No complaints. One battery failed in 5 years. I buy the tools mainly bare, no chargers, no batteries. Only the Hacksaw that I bought was the whole kit so I still have 3 batteries for all tools.

I'm all but done with FBMP, CL and the Bay. I will use the Bay occasionally for the protection and new items, and the others if the deal is literally only blocks away. I have had experience with several brands of cordless tools. The only other one I would have gone with is DeWalt although I have found Makita to be very good. A lot of off brand tools are compatible with DeWalt batteries. Others you can get adapters.

The last thing I want is a bunch of yellow and red tools combined. Occasionally I wish I had gone DeWalt first. Milwaukee triggers and switches are sometimes poorly placed.

I use ebay for small stuff that is easy to ship. I list everything on FBMP just because it is free and local. I also use CL for the same reason. Lateley I just list stuff but nothing seems to be selling. Buying I mostly use Amazon and sometimes ebay. Used stuff I mostly resell comes from FBMP.

I’m a big fan of the HF Hercules (the blue ones) cordless tools. I’m slowly migrating over as my old Craftman stuff dies, currently have an impact, ratchet, and just picked up a 1/2 hammer drill. All of them are very well made and work great, and the batteries last forever.

Bought mine on at H. Depot. driver kit with charger and battery is $100 now, driver alone $150.

I bought a kit with the Hackzall, driver, drill, and multitool for $200.

You'd like the hackzall if you don't have one already.

It's one of my main tools for pruning - along with my cordless pruners.

Been using the 15" curved pruning blades as shown, which are awesome, but before that was doing 12" carbide pruning blades which are also great.

I didn't see that yesterday. I have to wait until tomorrow to start a return for the eBay one and will get the HD. The battery isn't such a big deal but it would be nice to have two chargers.

I was putting in 1000 sq feet of oak hardwood in my house 18 years ago. I bought a brand new Bosch floor nailer for some stupid discount. Nailed the floor. Resold the nailer for what I paid. It was a pretty great transaction.

Was the thing red-hot? No idea.

Big time game changer. Bought the cordless pruner last time you recommended it, but got the one with an add-on pole. Works great! (watch your fingers)

10-4 on the fingers! I think about that EVERY TIME I use it....trust me!

I also picked up extension poles. I got two different kinds. Very handy!

Does that tree pruning blade fit all sawz alls? That would come in handy sometimes.
