It's a pic of me. I see no need to hide behind a symbol, trademark, or whatever.

Mine shows the sails of my Hobie Cat. Hobie+Marty= HobieMarty, pretty simple.

One day while scrolling through some memes, I found one which seemed to encapsulate my feelings regarding so many people. I don't particularly identify with Spiderman, but I wasn't going to mess with the image. "Common sense is so rare it should be considered a super power."
My user name comes of course from the '69 E which brought me here and I sold just before prices went crazy.

Best

Can't see avatars but I've got gulag javascript blocked.
My city website requires it to function, but it is supposed to be a government for the people and not a private data-mining operation.

Mine is from the very old movie Metropolis with Val burning at the stake.

(spoiler alert ahead)
IIRC The golem 'machine-man' ('robot' wasn't yet an english word) is created by the incel best friend of the oligarch who runs Machine Town.
It is a place where workers labor endlessly in repetition as undead drones to keep the city running.
Val takes on human form and was supposed to replace his lost wife who they were both in love with. She also resembles Maria the new leftist girlfriend of the oligarch's playboy son.
(Yeah. It gets a little weird there)
Val the upstart robot organizes the workers into revolution and the city floods.
Val is caught, Maria is freed, and order is restored.
The question of how to run Machine Town remains unanswered...

Metropolis was a groundbreaking movie in terms of technical achievement. As expensive as Cleopatra was for it's time.
Historians somehow restored it from fragments all over the world.
It's written to leave questions.

The director's theme is 'the connection between the head and hands is the heart'.

I've never seen Metropolis (1927), but the imagery from it is timeless and astonishing.

Brings back memories of an English class I took in college that studied movies. Metropolis was one of them. I may have the course syllabus somewhere and will post the movie list if I can find it.

Around the same time I took another English class on Sci-Fi that was really fantastic. Not movies but books. That one is where I became acquainted with Vonnegut's "The Sirens of Titan".

Now you can see why I spent 5 years in college before getting my degree...lol....

Great thread!

Just put your real name out there then if you are that tough. You make too many large assumptions that you should throttle back on. Third time I've seen you be disrespectful in two weeks.

I don't need you to tell me how things are. Your opinion is great. Not a dictate.

I hide behind a Vic Elford pic in the 1968 Targa Florio win poster.

He was great. I remember when he got terminal lung cancer from smoking and said, "Hey...I just wanted the Steve McQueen haircut!"

When I joined, I was really into kart racing. My username was 125shifter (I think) and my avatar is me racing a 125 shifter kart. I quit racing karts and one day I was scrolling through usernames, saw that 'David' was taken, perhaps by someone named David who had joined then logged in maybe twice several years before and then never again. I sent Wayne a private message asking to change names to 'David' and I believe his reply was 'done'. I thought I'd keep the avatar for posterity.
