Mosquito bites

This is a serious question.
What can I do, aside from hosing myself down with deet, to mitigate Mosquito bites?

I washed my car Friday and forgot to dip myself in deet first. Now my legs are covered in at least 40 bites. I ook like a pin cushion, and I'm itchy as an old dog with fresh fleas.

Avon used to sell a product called Simply Soft if I remember correctly . It was a clear liquid that kept mosquitoes away . Pour a little in a cupped hand and wipe it on . We used it for a long time at our lake cottage back in the 80's . Not sure if it's still available but worth looking into .

Was there (Siesta Key) last week and didn't have much trouble with mosquitos....but the sand fleas were terrible. Walk on the beach and look down at your ankles and see about 20 on each foot.

They didn't bite, but it's real annoying and itchy. (and impossible to slap them dead)

I was wrong , it is called Skin So Soft . Looks like it's still available . And they also make a " bug version " .

I'd rather get eatin' by skeeters than reek like a cheap French ho .... SkinSo Soft . Yeah ... it may work .... but I could not tolerate the "allure" .... tried that once.

23 years ago this month, my gf and I met up with FL buddies for a weekend of fishing on Pine Island .... they drove a Motor Home/boat down from Jax..... the campground was absolutely deserted.... had the place to ourselves .... found out why too.

"Noseeums" (sandflies).... we were their only buffet and they were THICK .... you simply could not be outside in stagnant air.... demons from hell .

Good times tho'

Yeah, it sounds bad, but that stuff really works on noseeums, works on chiggers too. Got introduced to it by Marine infantry down at Camp Lejeune when I took a platoon of Seabees there to support an exercise. The only problem was you couldn't keep the sweat flies out of your eyes.

Hillbilly grandma used to say drinking buttermilk made you undesireable to bugs. I know insects will prefer some to others and diet has to be a factor.

There’s a product called afterbite. Comes in a squeeze tube. Lessens the itch.

I would NEVER tell a Marine that they reek like a French ho' .

When I tried it once years ago, I was working daily around one of my ponds .... and my mom had some she'd had since the Avon lady knocked on doors.

Mebbe the "bug version" is odorless? I tried mom's version.... ONCE .... I almost jumped into the pond to get rid of the "reek"

Did you drink the H2O?

And they will always be Camp Lejeune and Ft. Bragg in my world.... no Camp LejuRne and Ft Liberty for me

Remember, if it's stupid but it works it isn't stupid. Smear in on your waist band and on the tops of your boots. Those short panty hose help as well.

Did you drink the H2O?

Only the stuff we processed from the Swamps.

Long pants. I'd rather be hot than itchy.

I don't think the smell of Deet is attractive either . But the lady asked for help and SSS is one possibility . Just my opinion but smelling like a French ho is better than being devoured by mosquitoes .

Their larvae mature in standing water. If you have control over the standing water, get rid of it.

Cover up with clothes.

Won't help you outside, but allow spiders in the house and garage. They will eat them all. Don't destroy webs around your garden.

Put up some bat boxes.

Do the outside jobs at times they are less active. Here they get you at dusk.

I didn't apply it to my clothes like Dan suggested.... I applied it liberally to my exposed skin and I'm a shorts and tee shirt guy (used to go shirtless a lot too) that sweats like a French ho' ..... in church .... nothing stays on very long.

I'd definitely try the bug version tho' .... hopefully it's odorless... or tolerable?

look for a product containing Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus. It'll last a couple of hours before needing re-application.

Aloe is your friend if you don’t already know it. Liberal and frequent application on the bites I get (not ‘squitos) calms them down and helps them heal.

Aren't the red itchy bumps from the saliva they spit back into you after they've scored their blood?
