Cool photos - thanks for sharing.
Is that a 959 Sport? Do I see a factory roll bar in the back? |
It just said 959. A car I drooled over as a teen. Never seen one until today.

I'll take the Gremlin ... thanks for making me drool :)!

When I was an older teenager, one of my sisters had a Gremlin. Hers was the lime green. I drove it a couple of times. I remember it had quite a bit of pep for it's size, but it drove down the road like a log. It rolled from side to side on every corner.

What is funny? 4 out of 5 people I have showed these pics talk about the Gremlin. Not a word about priceless Ferraris or similar.

That is a lucky 'get' to go walk that collection! How long did you stay? Did you have a favorite? Do you happen to know how many cars are on display?
Strangely, I think my favorite might be the Toyota! I've only seen pictures of that mythical jewel! (I don't think I've ever seen that particular Yenko; at least not with that stripe! And the Wall-o'-Cudas must be a sight to see. Thanks for sharing!) |
There are 600 cars in the collection with a little over 300 on display at this location.

To answer Herr O, I got an invite from a buddy in the Alfa club. The Porsche club was there at the same time. I suspect a Pelican or two may have been in attendance. I did see a guy I recognized but not from Porsches. Small world.
I think we spent about 2 hours. My favorite was the silver car at the top of this page - a Bizzarrini 5300GT. Wow. That thing was LOW and swoopy. Just an amazing car. I said many times "I have never seen one of those..." The Toyota being one of them. Spectacular. It was my Buddy's favorite car as well. My reaction was that there were simply too many of similar cars and that a strong hand curating the collection could go a long way. Example: there were three 53 corvettes in white in a row. 6-8 65 GT350's. A huge number of mopar muscle (Wall O' Cudas!) in every color and flavor. My FIL, who attended with me, commented that a 39 Bantam would made a real splash in a corner. Because it is different. I agree. But, I don't want to make it sound like sour grapes. I don't have the means to make this collection. It is stunning and amazing. I just felt it was sort of like visiting the Louvre. Too much of a good thing is hard to absorb at times. And, a geeky Porsche nut comment from me. My prior 930 was (honestly) more desirable than the one they had on display. Their's was certainly nicer than what I owned. (Almost every car was absolutely flawless. A couple did have a paint chip. But that is only about TWO or so) Fred's early 930 would have been an even better example. Summary. It was awesome. Do it if you have the chance. These people are fans of cool cars and have the means to collect a bunch. |
