Can anyone explain why...........

........toilet seats in public bathrooms are always split like the one shown here?

I know, I know... first world problem. Humor me.

^^^ correct

"Split toilet seats offer more space so the user won't accidentally hit the seat with their genitals, and it also reduces the chance of splashing urine onto the front of the seat."

in OP's pic, #1 is private, #2 is semi open. Kind of backwards. Just sayin. I remember going to the Indy 500 in '78. The infield #2 set-up was a long row of holes. May still be the same?

I would kill for one of those taller toilets at home. Mine is from 1948, I think. Low bowl and circular lid.

To add, it is a public health requirement to help stop the spread of STIs from people’s junk touching the seat. I believe it is a code requirement as well.

Guys, the split has nothing to do with y'all.
The split allows women to wipe our perennial area without touching the seat.
And now you know.

Keep junkies from falling asleep in the stall? That happened once at the large downtown public library which has a lot of that clientele, when they reduced several stalls to one.

It is weird that most home toilets are a connected, and the commercial ones are open in front.

I recently stayed at a very 1960s style motel. It had been taken care of, and had a decent bed and was inexpensive. The toilet was right from the 1960. It was TINY, and short. And of course, to keep wit the theme of the place, I had to jiggle the handle pretty much after every flush to get it to stop running.

Our house has the "comfort height" and elongated bowls that are much more comfortable.
