They fark you in the drive-thru - Uber edition

What this guy surmises in the video would not surprise me at all. You can watch for the details, but basically, Uber will run promotions for drivers to make more money, but then they'll kill your ability to reach the promotions. When I was in my 20s, I worked in FLAPS for about 3 years. The last year, I was a store manager. When I got promoted to Mgr, the previous guy had been canned. Each month, the store had a sales/profit goal, and if you met the goal, you got a bonus (size dependent upon how much you exceeded the goal by. I think my first month the goal was in the low to mid teens, maybe around 13,000. We beat the goal the first month by a decent amount, maybe 1500-2500. So the next month, they bumped the goal up by 2k to 15,000. that month, I beat the goal again, and again, but a similar amount, so they bumped the goal up again to something like 18000. The third month I beat the goal again, but just barely by a few hundred dollars. My 4th month, they bumped the goal from what had been 18000 to 25000. That month, my sales were similar to the previous month, somewhere around 18k. They left me goal up in the mid 20s for a few months. Then they dropped my goal down to just below what I'd been doing for a few months and I got a bonus, then they bumped it back up again (not quite so high since I had somewhat plateaued. And for the rest of the year, it was the same. They'd leave my goal high for a bit, and then drop it down for a month or two to enable me to get a bonus and then they'd bump it back up again so I couldn't get a bonus. That's when I realized that the goals were BS and they just moved/jerked them around to give you the occasional bonus (but not too many).

It's called 'management'. Please don't confuse that with leadership.

Its the old "don't tell me what you did, tell me what you're going to do" sales carrot and stick.

Been there. Early in my career, I sold two monster accounts for the crappy company I worked for. They fired me (for not selling!!!) so they didn’t have to pay me a bonus. | ||

I was going to link to the Pesce classic but the language might not suit.
