What the hell is Shop Pay??

Apparently I have an account. A few weeks ago I bought something on line using my credit card and the payee is listed on my statement as Shop Pay. I just bought something on line, payed with my credit card, and right away I got a text from Shop Pay giving me my "Shop Pay login code." WFT is going on??

Just marketing BS or a scam I wouldn’t worry about it.

It is the next Amazon. They probably have a deal with the seller to purchase your customer(aka personal) information. Now you can start buying everything you own directly through Shop Pay!!! (it's a catchy name but i envisioned a greasy mech's measly check) That is not illegal afaik, but should have been decades ago. Even before SS# were being tossed around like carnival beads.

And there are lots of small businesses that we purchase from that use "Square" for their cc purchases. I've never gotten any sort of SPAM from Square or had an account or anything like that, but we'll occasionally purchase from a new place and they'll automatically know my email address (to email the receipt) because they are also using Square.

With Cindy in a Rehab facility (MS), today's snail mail contained an ad for a "retirement community" that just happens to be near the facility she's in. The usual BS ad with the usual BS photos of all the happy oldsters enjoying life in what amounts to a comfortable jail... I'm sure it was just a coincidence..
