How many tracks have you driven in your street 911?

I recently had the great fun of running on Ozark International Raceway. It is basically 4 miles long, and has a LOT and I mean a LOT of elevation changes. It is the sticker on the far right.

From left to right, Hallett, in Oklahoma
Texas World, in Fort Worth, TX which has since gone away and is just a parking lot.
Charlotte Superspeedway, outside of Charlotte, NC
Roebling Road, just outside of Savannah, GA
Laguna Seca, outside of Monterey, CA
Indiana 500 track in of course Indianapolis. **
Eagles, Canyon. outside of Decatur, TX
And of course Ozark International in the middle of nowhere, or Gravois Mills, Missouri

This was shot the night before the the track day.

Now I will admit, I am not that fast on track with a 200 HP street car with full interior, fantastic air conditioning, and the full overkill heating system of the Carrera models. My car is 2,700 pounds, and I drive on street tires. I am out there just to have fun, the most fun I can have in my 911 while fully clothed.

Any old stock Boxster will smoke my best times, and I really can't care less, they are not having more fun. And I drove my car to each and every track, and back home. I just rolled 193,000 miles last week.

Back to the Ozark Track, and the elevation changes. Near the bottom of the sticker is the end of the "roller coaster" and wow what a ride. The sharp hairpin near the top right leads into a curve, then down a STEEP hill and my car goes from 60 to 90 in a second, I wish it would accelerate like all the time. Then some esses and a curve, then onto the roller coaster. Wheeeeee. Downhill, redline in 3rd, into 4th at the bottom of the hill, then back up a steep hill, and I had to lift or the front end gets light, then on downhill pedal to the metal in 4th and into triple digit speeds, and then back slower through some fun curves. It is a total blast to run.

There was a 701 HP 911 GT2RS in my run group. When she caught me, I did not even lift, and she blasted past like I was pulling a trailer.

The good news is Porsche Parade is in Birmingham, AL in 2024. They are having two days of DE running after Parade. I will for sure stick around for that! I want Barbour Motorsport track sticker for my window!

** I will admit Indy 500 track was not a real DE. It was follow the leader for a dozen laps and I hit 90 down the back straight, but it was cool to drive over the yard of bricks, and see the stands and try to comprehend what it would be like with fans filling the stands. All the other tracks I went as fast as I was able to go with my skills and a street car.

Wasn't Texas World Speedway in College Station? I drove my '83 911 there at the first Porsche High Performance Driving School. Instructors included Derek Bell and Brian Redman. I think was in 1986 or thereabouts.

It was back in 2005, so my memory was not totally accurate. It was called Texas Motor Speedway, not Texas World. The second one shows the track name in the background.

And it was in Fort Worth area.

Yes that makes sense. Two different tracks.

I never thought of them as a Rorschach test. I guess the THC treatment is really effective for you. ;)

Loved Texas World!

Only did it once in the 930. I don't track the 930 much.

This I did more:

A group of go carts used the track for a full day the day before we ran the Ozark track. They were loading up to leave as we arrived to see the track and have a driver's meeting and a meal that was catered.

Only one track with the 911. But I've been there half a dozen times. One time the Jaguar Car Club said to fiends and neighbours with European cars "Come racing with us and help share the cost of the track for the day." And I got the fastest lap times when it was wet. Then got absolutely thrashed when it was dry later in the day.

Gocarts. I got a third racing at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Just the 2 tracks at Willow. I raced karts at a lot more including Riverside, Orange County Raceway and the original Ontario. Also ran Carlsbad and believe it or not, Lion Country Safari in Irvine.

I ran the old road course in Vegas and the road course at Firebird. I missed out on Buttonwillow and Laguna Seca. Then there were the sprint tracks and street races for the sprint kart. Never ran dirt.

Edit: I forgot I did a paced lapping session at Fontana after seeing Scott's post. Nostatic was there and maybe Scott. Several R Gruppe attendees as well. The rabbit was a Ford truck of all things and he was fast. So fast that the group was spread out.

I wish!

Still one of the coolest 911 I have walked around.

A few...if two-tracks count.:)

I envy the time you spend with your 911. You enjoy the hell out of that car, and that's what cars are for.

Mid-Ohio
Putnam
Gingerman

Cal speedway, Willow Springs and Button Willow. Oh the old Pasadena Fwy but that's with all my cars and trucks:D

You know who really needs to get their car out to a track? That Jack Olsen guy. I don't think he's ever had his on a track.

I had my first Porsche in 1999 and had it for about 5 years. I had big plans, autoX and DE. Never made it. Then I had 2 miatas including a turbo. Now I've had a Boxster for over 9 years, still no track time. Maybe I'm just too conservative. My sports cars have always been my daily drivers. I didn't want to risk a daily driver. Killing a car on a Sun and then needing to get to work on Mon is not something that I wanted to deal with.

Steve, you can beat on that 'lil Cayman a bit and they come ask for more. I took my S to the track when possible. It is fun but I drive it only 9/10 of my ability (meaning only 70% of the car's abilities?). The other 1/10 I reserve for the days when I am really stupid and reckless. Anyway, go out and have fun. I have 110,000 trouble free miles with the exception of suspension, socks and the dumb air/ oil spearator. Knock on wood. I driver to work on Mondays.
