Many times. Laughs Unlimited in Old Sacramento, would get freebies occasionally from the manager of the restaurant.

Far and away the funniest was Steven Wright

Went to a Sam Kinison show in Palm Springs, would have been 1990, maybe 1991. He was like an hour late, drunk and not funny at all. I heckled him without mercy and he had nothing.

I've been to a couple of comedy clubs years ago. More fun when you are getting hammered.

I worked in a comedy club for years. It was a very interesting experience. Actually became friendly with a few comics that you might be familiar with. Tim Allen, Andrew "Dice" Clay and Harry Anderson. Harry became a good friend of me and my wife.

Dice and my wife really hit it off. She always referred to him as Andrew and it seemed to put him at ease and he knew he didn't need to perform for anyone. Although, Dice made me deal with his abuse when he pulled me on stage on my birthday.

There are good comics as well as some mediocre ones. Luckily, we didn't do open mic nights, but I did not have to deal with any terrible comics.

Back in the old days, when we used to get good shows for Gator Growl? You betcha. Got to see Bob Hope booed at, Robin Williams, Bill Cosby, Rodney Dangerfield. Jay Leno too but he sucked then.

That guy is hilarious. I'd forgotten about him, also hilarious.

I've only been to a Comedy Club once ... when I lived in Jax. Went with a bunch of work buddies .... azzhole wouldn't play Freebird :D!

I love to watch 'em though .... many already mentioned here....

Richard Pryor in his prime .... it didn't get any better .... his "In Concert" movie on a late Friday night .... sold out theater .... audience was 50/50 ... it was awesome :)!

I saw Redd Foxx perform once at Dante's in Universal City. It was not planned, he just stood up during the break for Louie Belson.
It was the funniest thing I have ever seen, and definitely not PG.

Same here. We saw him and we never laughed so hard. The next year we saw him again and it was awful, he wasn't funny at all.

I've seen Rodney, Carlin, and Rickles in one year.
I've also seen Chris Rock in the early 2000's.
I'd like to see Bill Burr, Dave Chapelle, Jim Gaffigan, and Brad Garrett.
I listen to the comedy channels on XM and sometimes they play Joan Rivers. She was hilarious and I wish I was able to see her live.

Mrs. Robert and I go about once year; here in ATL, there are plenty of venues. Carlin was a huge influence on me growing up and finally saw him down in Florida. The late Tim Wilson was a favorite and he did a great set of 50/50 funny songs/jokes. Dave Attell will be in town soon; he's a real comic's comic, IMHO.

You ever get so drunk you black out? Or, as I like to call it: time travel.

--Dave Attell

Paul and Storm (aka Da Vinci’s Notebook) can be quite blue, and an absolute a riot to hear. Finally, looking for some really dark stuff? Check out Stephen Lynch.

Tobra 10-27-2023 08:08 PM

I need to keep an eye out for Dave Attell

This I would have loved

Saw Louie Anderson in Las Vegas September 1996. There was a Tyson fight in town at the same time that lasted seconds and Anderson joked about "arent you glad you bought the right tickets"? Tupac Shakur was at the Tyson fight and was fatally wounded afterwards.

I've liked Bill Burr from way before he was married. Louis CK is top shelf but Norm MacDonald is the best for me. I did see Steven Wright walking past me outside the Comedy Club in LA.

Eric 951 10-28-2023 06:18 AM

Only 3
Norm Macdonald several years ago, laughed the entire time
Jim Gaffigan, also very funny.
Steve Martin and Martin Short last month, very good show

Just bought tickets to see Nate Bargatze in January. The wife really wanted to go. She loves a good "clean" to "cleanish" comedian. He's very funny.

GH85Carrera 10-28-2023 06:31 AM

Like most everyone, we all want to be funny, and make others laugh. My greatest moment was with a large group of friends on vacation. We took the "booze cruise" in the harbor and it was all the rum, tequila based drinks you wanted for the price of the cruise. I had a slightly upset bowel day, so I refrained from the free boozes and nursed two beers all evening. On the way back to the docks, I started telling jokes to my friends, and they were all totally smashed. Every joke was a laugh fest, and I had them in hysterics.

The boat docked at we all loaded up on a bus to go back to the hotel, and I kept telling jokes. The next day they all had hangovers, and said I should become a professional com median. I knew better, as a comedian is supposed to write their own material, and I was just telling old jokes I had heard to really drunk friends. Also, I hate cigarette smoke and in that era every bar smelled like an ashtray. It io wonderful to go out to eat, and not smell the stench of cigarettes. I kept my day job.

One of my favorite jokes of all time.

Two ladies walking down a busy street. One see's her husband walking out of a flower shop on the other side of the street with a big bundle of roses.

She turns to her friend and says "Darn it. Now I have to keep my legs in the air for two weeks."

He friend says "Why don't you just use a vase?"

Well, that was great.

I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed that. Women from Asian countries will look you right in the grill and, at least the ones I dated, never blink.

I just finished running some errands and listened to sat radio: Collin Quinn.

Anyone see him?

BTW, Vin, I am so surprised you are going to see Sebastian (he is great): Is he from the NE? :)

I have a joke of hers I <code class="hljs xml"><strike>use</strike></code> steal all the time when getting any kind of medical or dental work done. Just when the nurse/doc/dentist is halfway into the procedure, I throw my hands up and yell out, "Stop! STOP! I''ll tell you where the Nazi gold is buried!!"
