I go through
1 bottle of Bombay Sapphire for gin & tonics each summer and probably 2 6 packs of beer. Stopped buying beer since all the craft stuff really sucks 1 bottle of Courvoisier and 1/2 bottle Blanton's or Woodford Reserve double oaked each winter. It's about time to get a bottle of cognac for Sidecars Don't drink beer in winter for the most part 1 bottle of wine a month for dinner |
Used to drink fair amount of beer all through the week, liquor (Wild Turkey- Rare Breed) on the weekends. Wine whenever someone had it / offered it until late 30's. Then started cutting back. Last 6 years don't drink at all during school nights (mon-thurs) cut back to a few low-ball glasses of WT / splash of zero gingerale over rocks on fri / Sat - alternate with good wine.
I also quit doing drugs (recreationaly) by 40, I grew out of that phase as well. Just turned 64, best health I've been in my life. |
I think this thread proves two things.
Most people cut back on alcohol as they get older. People who 'overdo it' won't answer the question posed. |
^^^
After typing my post up I was worried it sounded like I drink too much. But it really isn't that much when you do the math. 2 G&Ts a week will empty a bottle over a 5-6 months. |
I drink only on weekends (generally). The type of beverage very much depends on the occasion/mood.
Football: probably a few beers Winter evening watching a movie or reading by fire: Bourbon/Old Fashioned Making fresh pasta will always involve a nice red wine summer evening: white wine, beer or gin+tonic That’s pretty much the variety of what I consume. Quantities vary. |

I can say that on occasion I can have six to eight "light" beers but as I get older and my body starts to buckle I'm pretty boring. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/off-topic-discussions/938379-what-constitutes-alcoholic.html |
Nothing in about 20 years, Opioids are easier
|
It got too heavy to lift kegs, so I knocked it back to 30 packs.
|
Ive been trying to dring MORE for years. Always forget its an option during the week.
As it is I usually have 1 or 2 high ABV beers on sat night, occasionally a bit of wellers or sake instead. |
Why do you ask?
The reason I ask is because every time this topic comes up here, all the non, or not much, drinkers need to tell us how little they drink. Pedestal kind of thing. |

1-2 beer or wine during the week per day
More beer in the summer more wine in the winter Weekends probably around 5. Add Martinis or Manhattans if I go to a restaurant. At the end easily 10 drinks per week. |
I have re discovered the joys of alcohol again .
I bet I have consumed less than 20 beers/drinks since my son was born 18 years ago . My wife and I were just both working hard, starting a family and we quit drinking , drugs and smoking . I lived a pretty clean life for 20 years with the exception of the devils lettuce whenever appropriate . I probably have a few rum and cokes, once night a week, and have gone out and done some consumption as of late, seeing bands and staying till close . I was surprised I could still put down a bunch of drinks and function . I was never really a big drinker, but I ripped it up for about a 10 year span in my mid 20's + |
Too heavy. There I will be honest with the OP. Covid and work from home did a number on me. I have always been a fan of alcohol at the right times and places. Since CV my times start late morning and go to 3 pm. I stop after that, never get drunk, just a light buzz. Vodka with copious amounts of water is my routine. Self medicating for sure but so far I found nothing else to be a substitute. I started going to the gym again and walking everyday so not all is lost. My job is solid as are my relationships.
I am only posting here in honest fashion because I have for the last 30 years struggled with managing stress. It comes and goes. I used to be able to sweat it away (raced bicycles and gym fan) but I'm turning 61 next week and my sports injuries and arthritis make that stuff more difficult. Reading back what I just said I am still in a positive place. Could be better, could be much worse. |
More than that. But usually only at work. And at home.

Bless you, JB. Me? Vodkaholic: Hate beer, like a glass or two of Cab with dinner. Imagine being in a Navy squadron at Pacers strip club in San Diego and ordering a Merlot, in the 80's:cool: Then. I came home from a Friday flight when I was at VX-1 and forgot to get some wine. In the freezer was a 5th of Vodka, my roommates. I thought, why not...I'll replenish whatever I have tomorrow. It was on. While I have enough self discipline to ward off most bad habits, I needed help with this one...thank God for friends who put up with my fits and starts getting off the Ketel One Train. The insidious nature of vodka, in my case, is that I never got drunk, just maintained the buzz. That, and I only let the big dog eat on weekends. 10 years in and I watch myself everyday. No more weekends, no more Vodka. We are all addicts in one way or another...how we face the truth of a specific addiction is often a miracle, and I mean that. I needed help and the Little Angels that try and help if you pay attention were there. I paid attention. |

Probably too much. Glass of red while making dinner, usually another with. Once or twice a week I'll have a cocktail or bourbon, then a glass of wine or two. It adds up.

I know people close to my age who IMO are drunks and haven't even begun to address the problem. And sadly they probably never will. Quote:
