How heavy is your drinking?

I almost never drink these days. Maybe once a month. It would probably be better if I had a glass or two or red wine daily, health-wise.

A930Rocket 10-31-2023 07:31 PM

I think I’ve had three beers in the last 37 years.

So not very heavy.

pwd72s 10-31-2023 07:41 PM

No booze for decades.

unclebilly 10-31-2023 07:58 PM

Used to be 1 or 2 beers a night… then heart incident… then palpitations.

I’ve had one beer with alcohol in it since early July. I love good craft beer but these days it’s dealcoholized corona or Budweiser zero…

I have lost weight and feel good but surprisingly my blood pressure is still high without meds.

JackDidley 10-31-2023 08:01 PM

3 beers every night. I like beer but I know any more than that would be bad. At 70 years old I'm not sure it matters though.

HobieMarty 10-31-2023 08:02 PM

I used to like to have a few beers on the weekends but to be honest, ever since my Dad passed away and then my sister's husband passed 2 days later, I just have sort of almost quit entirely. I tried having a few like I would on a Saturday night but I would get very depressed. My wife asked me why I stopped having so much beer and I told her I just got tired of crying so I quit.

I have one or two beers a week and once in a while a glass of scotch just because I think I should. Basically I don't have much interest in drinking. I usually won't drink beer unless it's from a frosted mug from my freezer.

john70t 10-31-2023 08:10 PM

The human body is 60% water. Gallon of water weighs 8.33lbs. Average 4.5-6.5 beer ABV so 5.5 average. Math something.

craigster59 10-31-2023 08:33 PM

About 12 ounces. 500ml if it's an import.

Tobra 10-31-2023 08:52 PM

Not very much booze, beer occasionally

I should drink more wine

sc_rufctr 10-31-2023 09:14 PM

I drink socially only which is not often. Maybe a glass of red once a month. Sometimes Scotch on ice but no more than three of four times a year.

One of my uncle has been on the 12 step program since the late 1970s. He's now in his early 80s and still dry.

jyl 10-31-2023 11:29 PM

Once a week, typically. I’ll have a beer in the afternoon, some wine or whisky with friends, a couple cocktails at a Halloween party. I am sometimes immoderate when I drink at one of my own parties, but haven’t been semi-blotto for many years.

Bill Douglas 10-31-2023 11:37 PM

Tonight, being a Wednesday, I've had two large-ish glasses of a good pinot noir. Same as I do most nights. It makes me happy, switches off the day. Life does rather seem to be a bit of a s***storm these days, so it's nice to be able to just not care for the evening.

Heel n Toe 10-31-2023 11:44 PM

One beer with the meal when we get dinner out.

KFC911 11-01-2023 02:18 AM

I don't do a lot of stuff these daze that I did for decades ... I just don't want too. Drinking (lots of beer ... occasional shots of good tequila) on weekends and when seeing live music (literally several thousand shows) for decades with friends.... rarely at home ... never alone. WAY beyond excess ... it's what we did ... :(.

I've had mebbe 5-6 beers in the past 5 years ... back then ... I was just starting for the evening....

Learned the "hard way" not to drive .... exactly 30 years ago... to the minute.... I was asleep in my Supra at 6am on the side of road ... after a local band's annual Halloween show ... only time I EVER pulled over too.

"WE" were irresponsible idjuts ... growing up in the excesses of the 70-80s .... times change.... so did I.

It can be done :)

rfuerst911sc 11-01-2023 02:21 AM

Friday night is date night for my wife and I . We go out for dinner and I will have 1-2 beers . So 4-8 beers per month is the norm for me .

jcommin 11-01-2023 03:14 AM

I'm not a beer drinker but will have one on occasions. I cook with wine and always finish the open bottle. My drink of choice is Manhattans. I will order 1 or 2 when dining out but that is infrequent.

72doug2,2S 11-01-2023 03:34 AM

Weekdays

1) Beer 16 oz at dinner (Paulaner Hefewiezen)
2) 1/2 shot of Jager meister after lunch and after dinner
3) small glass of Cabernet

Weekend
4 drinks Saturday
3 drinks Sunday

Occasional scotch and cigar (or port)

id10t 11-01-2023 03:52 AM

I go thru about a case of beer and a bottle of bourbon per year, mostly around thanksgiving thru new years and then birthdays in march and july for the liquor, the beer is one every few weeks

shadowjack1 11-01-2023 04:06 AM

I have wine every night. My wife and I cook a very healthy meal every day.

Shaun @ Tru6 11-01-2023 04:16 AM

I go through
1 bottle of Bombay Sapphire for gin & tonics each summer and probably 2 6 packs of beer. Stopped buying beer since all the craft stuff really sucks
1 bottle of Courvoisier and 1/2 bottle Blanton's or Woodford Reserve double oaked each winter. It's about time to get a bottle of cognac for Sidecars
Don't drink beer in winter for the most part
1 bottle of wine a month for dinner

asphaltgambler 11-01-2023 05:05 AM

Used to drink fair amount of beer all through the week, liquor (Wild Turkey- Rare Breed) on the weekends. Wine whenever someone had it / offered it until late 30's. Then started cutting back. Last 6 years don't drink at all during school nights (mon-thurs) cut back to a few low-ball glasses of WT / splash of zero gingerale over rocks on fri / Sat - alternate with good wine.

I also quit doing drugs (recreationaly) by 40, I grew out of that phase as well. Just turned 64, best health I've been in my life.

1990C4S 11-01-2023 06:26 AM

I think this thread proves two things.

Most people cut back on alcohol as they get older.

People who 'overdo it' won't answer the question posed.

Shaun @ Tru6 11-01-2023 06:36 AM

^^^

After typing my post up I was worried it sounded like I drink too much. But it really isn't that much when you do the math. 2 G&Ts a week will empty a bottle over a 5-6 months.

Paul T 11-01-2023 06:49 AM

I drink only on weekends (generally). The type of beverage very much depends on the occasion/mood.

Football: probably a few beers
Winter evening watching a movie or reading by fire: Bourbon/Old Fashioned
Making fresh pasta will always involve a nice red wine
summer evening: white wine, beer or gin+tonic

That’s pretty much the variety of what I consume. Quantities vary.

That's a sugarwood, right there.

I can say that on occasion I can have six to eight "light" beers but as I get older and my body starts to buckle I'm pretty boring.

Nothing in about 20 years, Opioids are easier

Zeke 11-01-2023 07:08 AM

It got too heavy to lift kegs, so I knocked it back to 30 packs.

aschen 11-01-2023 07:31 AM

Ive been trying to dring MORE for years. Always forget its an option during the week.

As it is I usually have 1 or 2 high ABV beers on sat night, occasionally a bit of wellers or sake instead.

911 Rod 11-01-2023 08:32 AM

Why do you ask?
The reason I ask is because every time this topic comes up here, all the non, or not much, drinkers need to tell us how little they drink.
Pedestal kind of thing.

Hmmm .... I reckon I do ... now ;).

15 years ago .... I didn't have a pedestal ... sorry if it comes across that way...

2.7RS 11-01-2023 09:38 AM

1-2 beer or wine during the week per day
More beer in the summer more wine in the winter

Weekends probably around 5. Add Martinis or Manhattans if I go to a restaurant.

At the end easily 10 drinks per week.

fastfredracing 11-01-2023 10:07 AM

I have re discovered the joys of alcohol again .
I bet I have consumed less than 20 beers/drinks since my son was born 18 years ago .
My wife and I were just both working hard, starting a family and we quit drinking , drugs and smoking . I lived a pretty clean life for 20 years with the exception of the devils lettuce whenever appropriate .
I probably have a few rum and cokes, once night a week, and have gone out and done some consumption as of late, seeing bands and staying till close .
I was surprised I could still put down a bunch of drinks and function .
I was never really a big drinker, but I ripped it up for about a 10 year span in my mid 20's +

JavaBrewer 11-01-2023 10:19 AM

Too heavy. There I will be honest with the OP. Covid and work from home did a number on me. I have always been a fan of alcohol at the right times and places. Since CV my times start late morning and go to 3 pm. I stop after that, never get drunk, just a light buzz. Vodka with copious amounts of water is my routine. Self medicating for sure but so far I found nothing else to be a substitute. I started going to the gym again and walking everyday so not all is lost. My job is solid as are my relationships.

I am only posting here in honest fashion because I have for the last 30 years struggled with managing stress. It comes and goes. I used to be able to sweat it away (raced bicycles and gym fan) but I'm turning 61 next week and my sports injuries and arthritis make that stuff more difficult.

Reading back what I just said I am still in a positive place. Could be better, could be much worse.

Gogar 11-01-2023 10:23 AM

More than that. But usually only at work. And at home.

I often find the posts here so forthright and honest that you have to just appreciate the candor and humanity.

Bless you, JB.

Me? Vodkaholic: Hate beer, like a glass or two of Cab with dinner. Imagine being in a Navy squadron at Pacers strip club in San Diego and ordering a Merlot, in the 80's:cool:

Then.

I came home from a Friday flight when I was at VX-1 and forgot to get some wine. In the freezer was a 5th of Vodka, my roommates. I thought, why not...I'll replenish whatever I have tomorrow.

It was on.

While I have enough self discipline to ward off most bad habits, I needed help with this one...thank God for friends who put up with my fits and starts getting off the Ketel One Train. The insidious nature of vodka, in my case, is that I never got drunk, just maintained the buzz. That, and I only let the big dog eat on weekends.

10 years in and I watch myself everyday. No more weekends, no more Vodka.

We are all addicts in one way or another...how we face the truth of a specific addiction is often a miracle, and I mean that. I needed help and the Little Angels that try and help if you pay attention were there.

I paid attention.

Not a pedestal thing...I had to quit. Health reasons.

greglepore 11-01-2023 11:26 AM

Probably too much. Glass of red while making dinner, usually another with. Once or twice a week I'll have a cocktail or bourbon, then a glass of wine or two. It adds up.

- Younger people tend to exaggerate their drinking habits (bragging?). Older people out right lie about drinking.

I know people close to my age who IMO are drunks and haven't even begun to address the problem. And sadly they probably never will.

Every word of this post is the truth & I don't judge people based on their problems because we all have those.
