During the covid lockdown I was drinking 2 handles of wild turkey a week. I have since cut way back.

GH85Carrera 11-01-2023 12:25 PM

How heavy?

Well beer weighs pretty much the same as beer. So I will say 1.5648 pounds per day.

I just went to the Doc yesterday for a recheck. I lost 5 pounds since I saw him a month and a half ago.

After I had Covid I've had a major "post nasal drip" sinus problem for the last couple years. My nose runs, I swallow it and it causes stomach upset and nausea due to excess stomach acid. He said they are getting a lot of these types of complaints lately. Beer drinking just seems to exacerbate it so I've cut way back, and as I've aged it's lost it's luster. I drink a lot of water now, never been a soda drinker.

Weekends probably around 5. Add Martinis or Manhattans if I go to a restaurant.

At the end easily 10 drinks per week.

It's hard to get the drinks up to the top of the pedestal without spilling them, so....

Multiple 12 ounce curls with the occasional 1ounce shot thrown in.

ramonesfreak 11-01-2023 01:25 PM

went from 2 decades of drinking 2 bottles of wine per night on weekdays and a case of beer every weekend along with whatever else I had, down to almost none as of a couple years ago. Wasn't looking to cut down...it just seemed to happen on its own. Health issues along with a series of events probably had something to do with it. I guess I just woke up one day and the constant craving was gone.

Now if I buy a 6 pack of beer, it lasts in the fridge a minimum of 2 weeks....seems unbelievable to me but it is what it is. I don't think I have bought a bottle of wine in 2 years or more and I almost never buy beer

Only issue I have now is that my wife's hobby is cooking and baking and occasionally making fancy cocktails.....if she opens a bottle of anything, vodka, gin, bourbon...she will have her cocktail and go to bed.....I will then finish that bottle within a few hours which leads to trouble. Doesnt matter how big the bottle is.....

I do like to party

If there is one thing I am sure of, its that the house always wins. always

This is the best in my opinion.

Shaun @ Tru6 11-01-2023 04:27 PM

Yeah, not so much if you like proper German beer, like these from the oldest brewery in Munich. Augustiner Bräuwas founded in 1328. The Edelstoff is a lager and Maximator is a doppelbock at 7.5%. Phenomenal real beer.

After typing my post up I was worried it sounded like I drink too much. But it really isn't that much when you do the math. 2 G&Ts a week will empty a bottle over a 5-6 months.

So lets say 8 G&T’s per month.
You get about 40 or more G&T’s out of a bottle?:eek:
How many drops of gin do you use per drink?

I'll do some math later on. I don't think I had 2 every week. I do use a stainless steel restaurant condiment cup to measure the gin so I'll measure that into a beaker and see how many you can get out of a bottle.

Geronimo '74 11-02-2023 03:16 AM

I don’t use the condiment cup, but the 50/50 method. That’s probably why I get a lot less drinks out of a bottle… :)

The insidious nature of vodka, in my case, is that I never got drunk, just maintained the buzz.

Sounds familiar Paul....

I like my multiple small doses of vodka/diet coke while out in my shop in the evenings. Never really drunk, but have been thinking lately that it may not be such a healthy habit at my age. Always thought a couple drinks per day was good for the heart but I am pretty sure the Diet Coke is just awful health wise.

Back in the day yeah you bet but not these days.

As for alcohol I prefer wine now. I will pour a scotch occasionally, but I'll probably never finish the dozen different labels of single malt that I have in my cabinet.

scottmandue 11-02-2023 01:18 PM

I was a daily drinker, got up to a bottle of wine a night sounds like a lot but I had decades of building my tolerance.
The something unfortunate happened (we don't speak of the "event")
And I decided to kill myself via alcohol.,(remember that movie?)
Well obviously. I failed
They poured me into assisted living and I dried out for a year and a half.
I moved out of 'casa de muartos' as i called it and headed back home to San Pedro.
My new place is in a decidedly dangerous zone. There is a brewery literally a half block from me, there's a bar and a mini-mart on the corner. One of my favorites restaurants (also a brewery) is a block away and I often have lunch/dinner there.
This was all part of my plan, you can't hide from alcohol and I need to be walking distance from food, entertainment, and shopping
So here I am... I limit myself to two drinks a day.

Been a long time for me...if Vodka was Kale, I'm in. It is not, unfortunately.

OK here's the math. I get the 1.75L bottle. My SS ramekin is 50ml so you can get 35 gin & tonics out of a bottle. So cut that in half for weeks but some weeks I would have just 1 or even none so the math works pretty well.

Just got a 2018 Bordeaux for spaghetti all'assassina tonight. It drinks well right out of the bottle but am looking forward to it opening up a bit.

You're good until you use Red Bull for your mixer.

Glad you are still here today with us Scott. So many Pelicans are no longer. I've also been lucky that Darwin is a bad shot.
There are no "do-overs" on that side..

Truth in that. Alcohol, drugs, sex, food, social interaction - whatever makes you feel good is naturally addictive. I'll confess to all but the drugs and socializing at one point or another in my life. I have a friend who will not shut up. I think he's addicted to the sound of his own voice. Or the fear that his existence doesn't matter - or something.
