Freakin' USPS

I sent a few packages out on Friday, 2 day delivery for flat rate box. Should have been delivered by Monday at the latest.

First package ostensibly delivered today. It says they put it by the front door, which is certainly a lie, unless they hopped the fence.

Second package has been going from one place to another, without leaving town. It has been two different places, three different times each, still here in town.

WTF

I’ve given up on reliable package delivery. The other day I had a package coming via FedEx and it said there was a delivery exception requested. I certainly didn’t request it. Then it said they tried to deliver it, but nobody was home. Just me working in the garage with the door up, with a great view of the street 50 feet away.

Wow..don't get me started on USPS.

First they sent the ECU for my 928 to New Mexico, when it was supposed to go to Dallas (from Houston).

It then took USPS 2 weeks to get a package delivered locally in Houston a distance of 22-miles! Two weeks!

Just got a USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope today. It was mailed on 01/15/24 from Albany N.Y. went all the way to Denver Co. and than onto me here in Mooresville N.C.

I needed these to get an antique motorcycle rear fender off my workbench, 9 days for a small envelope with 2 small gaskets.

Cost more for less service, how do we allow this from a quasi gov entity?

Ordered a thing off eBay, usps. I’m always certain eBay is some sort of scam.

Big day comes… out for delivery and… address error. Hmm… says will be delivered tomorrow.

Tomorrow arrives and at 1:30pm says ‘couldn’t be delivered because address is inaccessible…’ outside there’s a few big lazy flakes.

Hop on my bicycle and cruise the neighborhood. There he is! Hand him my drivers license, he goes in the back and grabs the package.

Don’t know what the deal is, didn’t want to go down my street or something. Nothing wrong with the address, guy just decided to bag it two days in a row.

20 years never had trouble with mail but this is a new guy.

And! Item was fine, not a scam.

We are unlucky enough to not have a regular postal delivery person. So we get the person that finished their own route early, and then have to do our route. I sometimes go for days with no delivery, and then a bunch of mail at once.

I've been following a story about USPS office in Houston with packages weeks or more behind:

https://www.khou.com/article/news/local/houston-missouri-city-texas-usps-mail-delays/285-c3b30ce9-5c89-4fc6-a3ae-c39c4ebfc952

Now they got an insider to tell them a new sorting machine was being installed so they removed the existing sorters and then realized the new machine didn't fit!

I have a PO box in addition to my street mailbox for added security but now I'm wondering if there are more thieves inside the post office than on the streets!

Mid November I sell an item to someone in NYC, I'm in Ct. About 2 weeks later it shows up on my doorstep "Item Refused". I call the customer, they never refused the item nor was it ever delivered to them. I offer a refund but they need the item and ask if I would ship it back. I do. For two weeks it shows as out for delivery. I go to the Post Office and ask what's going on. They put out an inquiry. After another week or so I get an email stating the there has been theft/vandalism in the area and my package was one of them. Another two weeks later the package is back at my doorstep stating "no such address". I check with the customer to make sure the shipping label is correct and even put the address into Google maps. No issue with a wrong address.

not to trying to send this to PARF, because it's not a political statement, but in my area at least, I noticed an almost immediate degradation in service once DeJoy was appointed, and it has only gotten worse since.

I packed up a watch two days ago to send Priority Mail to NJ. I did the "click and ship" online, but it would not let me print the label. It charged my Amex and sent me a receipt, but only let me print a bar code that was not a label. I took it to the post office and it took them about 30 min. of discussion and running around before they finally just printed a new label, slapped it on the box, stamped "paid" all over it and then handwrote the address. Then they texted me a bogus tracking number. But the one on the receipt they printed for me seems to be good. It's out for delivery now. Fingers crossed.

Even with postal rates going up, still it's stupid cheap to put a stamp on an envelope and get it cross country. Sure beats riding a horse. I've been waiting 2 weeks for FedEx to deliver me some tires. Cold and Ice has slowed down many shipping services. shrug, they're supposed to deliver today.

I remember a UPS (not USPS) case from a few years back....The night shift manager at a dist. warehouse would check labels on parcels going out the next morning.
If the sender was a company that he thought would have something valuable to him...he would pull it out and bring it to the back door. When he went home, he would load the packages in his p/u.
The missing packages were declared 'lost in shipment'

He did it for a few years before they caught him. I remember they showed the pile of stolen items...it was a truck size pile.

I have an item here from a Pelican member that I have done some repair on. We agreed in early December to delay shipping until after the holidays for obvious reasons. Now, I suspect many returns of merchandise are clogging the system, not to mention a lot a bad weather.

All in all, I think it is smarter to wait and avoid Dec and Jan if possible. That and pay for a min of $1000 insurance. I believe the system recognizes highly insured items. We'll keep our fingers crossed when I make the trip down to the PO to send this back.

Make that $5000, it doesn't cost that much. Not when you are dealing with a one-of-a-kind item.

A few years back, next door house was a part time home for people from Charlotte and they were only here every so often. We got a notice from Verizon that we were going to be cut off for non payment. We paid and when the neighbors came back the next time, they brought over our original Verizon bill that was in their mailbox. Thanks USPS! Amazon needs to take over for USPS!

Not so fast. My weedeater from Amazon was on my neighbor's porch, in the original box so you could see what it was, and in full view of the street. How it didn't get swiped is a miracle.

They took it in I guess and then texted me. That's the only way it didn't get stolen.

I have taken their mail to them several times. You get to know a lot about your neighbors when you get their mail. And I mean of course not opened 'even by mistake' as they say.

I'm still in shock when Amazon can get something 24 hour or less to your door. My Sister once even had same day delivery.

I’m sure Amazon makes mistakes once in a while (we once got two packages with our name and address on them that weren’t ours, we didn’t order and weren’t charged to our account) but with a company that big, by and large they are very dependable. Amazes me too that you order something and the next day you have it (the majority of the time).

I frequently get things same day, sometimes within 4-5 hours of ordering. I must have a distribution center close by....
