Which song is better

Second one, not even close
|
Never liked Cobain's voice, so the choice is obvious to me. You do realize that You really got me is a cover?

I choose song #3
(Eruption isn't close to the best VH song, and GnR never "took" for me.) <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/IbW5K2F1N28?si=nMcLC99-6Ys7JXW9" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I’d have liked GnR if they had a different lead. A male frontman would have worked. Can’t stand that whiny beyotches voice.
While I love Eddie, got to choose GnR here because it’s NOT a cover. Plus, it should be canon that Kink’s songs shall not be sung by non Kinks UNLESS they are punks. |
GnR all the way
|
Whoops...just showed how little I know about Guns & Roses...never liked 'em. Van Halen another story...
|
The part after the intro by Eddie is all superfluous
|
I have always liked McKagans bass line in Sweet Child.

You have to listen to the music, not the song. |
So timely! Adding these to my jukebox this afternoon:

GnR.

I like SCOM as a complete song. I love Eruption (its quintessential VH in my book), but YRGM for me gets weird and less likeable.

I have not watched the OP links, assuming they are the original band videos. How did Foo Fighters and Cobain enter the thread?
Loved GnR but only for a few songs. VH has a huge body of work across multiple frontmen and they are just a handful of bands I can play an album (no longer in existence) without having to skip a song. Since Foo Fighers were mentioned they also have some iconic tunes. Still my favorite rock song is by Smashing Pumpkins <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/kG13HXoTyZc?si=AlmDEgDIson6q9UD" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
La Villa Strangiato

I choose GnR. Please, don't muddy the thread with an off topic song again.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...leys/freak.gif <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/hTWKbfoikeg?si=9oJdWp8_xM-C2xa2" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
I liked GnR and had a couple of their CDs, but I think that Van Halen especially with DL Roth was better. I'll have to listen to the two songs.
Eruption is killer, but is just the intro for "You Really Got Me". I feel like I'd have to compare that to "Sweet Child of Mine". I haven't listened to GnR in a long time. I have listened to Van Halen. |

eg...Slashes riff is 8 notes played in essentially a stepwise fashion. McKagans line is more complex and is set more or less as counterpoint to Slash's riff. The drums set a rhythm that is (to my ear) anticipatory in that the second strike comes in just a wee bit sooner than expected which gives the song an edge. If I had the score I could really make your eyes glaze over. |
