Middle of Summer now.

Actually in a few more days. SoCal Summer mid way is 9/15. If you go 45 days either way, it starts Aug 1 and ends on Halloween. Then Fall: Nov, Dec, and Jan. Winter starts in Feb. You can be sure you will be chilly here in Feb. Sometimes it's a short Winter. Sometimes it's a long Fall.

Whatever the year's weather, I bet it's 2-3 months behind yours if you don't live here. And by here I don't mean all of the Southwest. NM gets 4 seasons and AFAIK they are closer to the calendar seasons.

Anyway, it's been hot and humid for a few days touching 90º here 8 miles from the Pacific and the inland areas have been closer to 100 a few days, but always 90 something. Day after day.

I see looking at the weather map that TX is similar right now, but Winter sneaks up a little sooner? A lot more rain in TX vs. SoCal for the next 2-3 months. We might see some rain this year. El Niño conditions expected.

I see Las Vegas is hot but will cool down sooner in mid Oct than SoCal.

What's your report and outlook?

We had rain this morning where I live, Zeke.
I had the wife's car out to go get some gas for the lawn mower and didn't park it in the garage when I got back.
Ended up washing it in the driveway for the first time in years as I usually park it on the lawn so the water does double duty.
It's hot and muggy now at 94* and 47% rh. in the back yard.

The high temp here for the last few days has been 70 degrees.
Forecast is for mid 70's thru the weekend.

Trees will start turning color in a couple weeks.

Pacific North West. Oregon. It's been another dry summer here. Lots of wild fires. We've had some rain the last week or two though that help calm them down.

As far as what's left for summer...hard to say. I can be nice, really nice here up until November. But more likely it starts getting rainy in October.

After that we get Rain, more rain, then more rain likely, and lots of gray, sunless days. Typically for the next 8 months.

I believe this time of year we have some of the best weather anywhere. Low to mid 80’s. No humidity with a gentle breeze. The evenings are incredible. Low 70’s
No wind. I am at 2700 feet elevation. When the trees start to change color it gets even better.

Here in New Zealand it's the opposite to you guys, six months difference.

It's still a bit cold at night but the days have been spectacular. Lots of people at the beach, the usual high school kids shrieking and yelling as they go for a swim. I think it's going to be a great summer. a good end to winter which I think has been the wettest on record.

It's been a fairly mild summer here with quite a bit more rain than usual. Our fire season will probably be extended because of the additional plant growth. I'm wondering what future summers will be like with the influence of climate change.

Here in Indianland we have 4 seasons. Summer is winding down and autumn is near. It will be cool and rainy. I hate autumn. That is all.

Fall is my favorite time of year. Mild weather and no bugs. I planted lots of Maple trees through the years and it’s starting to pay off.

Currently high 80's to low 90's here with still fairly high humidity . The local weather guessers are saying next week will start cooling off . Will we get Indian summer ? Who knows . But I am looking forward to fall here in the Georgia mountains .

Fall "officially" starts on 22 September. It will likely still be high 80s- low 90s here. October temperatures will start dropping down to where it is absolutely lovely here. Can't wait to turn off the AC and open all the windows/doors 24/7. March/early April and late September-early November are my absolute favorite times of year.

Seattle and San Francisco have a lot in common. Both places generally mild weather year round (highs between 40 and 75, with a few weeks of exceptions). Both places are a poor bet for warm weather in June and even July. Both places, the most reliable weather is in September, though the hottest month is August. Weather can be nice until Halloween. But....I am pretty tired of darkness, clouds, fog and rain in the winter months. Predominant color is grey. We can easily go a month or six weeks without seeing the Sun. "Marine influence" they say.

Read a long time ago that's why suicide rates are so high in the Pacific Northwest--always rainy/gloomy. Humans need sun.

I feel like in the places that I've lived that the middle of the summer is the half way point between the summer solstice (~Jun 22) and the autumnal equinox (~Sep 22). I think that would put it ~Aug 8. And that makes sense. Our hottest months are usually Jun, Jul, and Aug, but Sep is usually up there hanging in with them.

And I feel like that fits in with how the heat of the day works. WHen you're young, you think "noon is the hottest part of the day because that's when the sun is highest in the sky", but that's not the case. The hottest part of the day here, is usually an hour or two before sundown, so in the middle of the summer, that's between 1600 and 1800.

SAD - seasonal affective disorder

Most common to hit folks in the winter, gray, dark months, but some folks experience it in the summer.

https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/publications/seasonal-affective-disorder

Quote:
Many people go through short periods of time where they feel sad or not like their usual selves. Sometimes, these mood changes begin and end when the seasons change. People may start to feel “down” when the days get shorter in the fall and winter (also called “winter blues”) and begin to feel better in the spring, with longer daylight hours.

In some cases, these mood changes are more serious and can affect how a person feels, thinks, and handles daily activities. If you have noticed significant changes in your mood and behavior whenever the seasons change, you may be suffering from seasonal affective disorder (SAD), a type of depression.

In most cases, SAD symptoms start in the late fall or early winter and go away during the spring and summer; this is known as winter-pattern SAD or winter depression. Some people may experience depressive episodes during the spring and summer months; this is called summer-pattern SAD or summer depression and is less common.

Well, I was wrong about the Summer dates for SoCal this year. 3 days from mid November and it's 90º outside. They're still reporting mosquito borne viruses sending people (a few, no epidemic) to the hospital. Will it end?

Crazy, but there's a slim chance it might rain in Vegas next weekend. Now that would be a hoot. If not, the nighttime race start should be about 55 and dropping. We could use some cooling down here although evening is jacket time.

Car show today and everyone was in a t shirt and shorts. At 9am.
