It pays to be nice thread
What comps have you've gotten for being nice? (It's the antithesis of the Pet Peeves thread.)
I spoke to the S. Beach hotel receptionist using my rusty Spanish and a bit of charm. Without asking, the guy upgraded me from a hotel room, to a full apartment. :) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1699483640.jpg |
Problem is, the payback is not always appreciated immediately.
Sometimes it takes years. The good part is that those paybacks are cumulative over a lifetime. |
Taco Bell screwed up my order once.
I told them...no problem, I'll eat it anyway. They gave it to me for free. |
Nothing comes to mind.

No real upgrades or anything but I know a little Tagalog and it really gets me treated nice from Filipinos. My wife is always shocked when random people know me just for being nice to them in their native language 😀

This is my primary behavior. I am nice. I am helpful. I am courteous. Etc.
A smile gets so very many doors opened. I am traveling with my wife as I write. We have Covid. We follow the rules. Inform our hosts. And people are accommodating to our (nasty, infectious) needs. We have only had super positive experiences traveling. And, I only speak English. A smile, a thank you and recognition are universally valued. |
The best thing about being nice to others is it makes them nice to others.
