Who is a veteran may surprise some. 33% of boomers, 39% of millennials, and 25% of Gen-x are veterans. 62% of all veterans are female.

I understand many returning from Vietnam feel their country abandoned them. For a moment, it probably did. But now I implore you to reevaluate your perception. It doesn't match today's America. 'Nam is over. Leave it behind. Allow us to honor you. Thank you for your service.

A nice post. One small correction… women make up roughly 10% of veterans, not 62%! There are many wonderful women serving our country right now, including some of our very own here on Pelican. My niece is one of them (NROTC out of VT).

To all the veterans and their families here, thank you.

I served in the Army Reserve in the 80's in an engineering battalion so not much going on militarily. That said, we went to Honduras twice to help build road across the mountains.

Slight risk due to Nicaragua back then but really no big deal. I am not real sure if that technically qualifies me as a veteran, but had we been ordered to fight back then, I would have done so proudly. Mucho kudos to the guys before and after who were in combat.

Me in middle without a steel lid checking in the guys stuffing drilled holes in mountain side with explosives.

Tim, under US law, a veteran is defined as a “person who served in the active military, naval, air, or space service, and who was discharged or released therefrom under conditions other than dishonorable.”

Thank you for signing up and serving our country in some capacity. Most of us didn’t.

Agreed. I have coworkers who are veterans. The more I work with them the more I understand how little I appreciate what it takes to serve.
