Yep, I still lick the batter off the mixer blade.

Just finished making a couple of loaves of banana bread. Someone in the kitchen with me was horrified and told me I was eating raw eggs and I'd probably be sick.

I've baked my whole life, ever since I was a kid, and I've never not licked the mixer blades. A little bit of raw egg has never been an issue...Maybe that explains my station in life as I approach the third act?

If the bread turns out OK, I might post a pic if I remember.

As long as you turn off the mixer first!

Much like eating raw cookie dough. No big deal. And it is yummy.

My dad had a sweet tooth. I saw him chopping up a tube of Pillsbury sugar cookie dough and putting it on a plate. I asked him what he was doing and he said "Salami."

Shaun, I've never even heard of it! I'm not fancy; My skillset is quite simple. Cookies, easy breads, pies, cakes; the like.
You and jyl and others on this board floor me with your knowledge and culinary skills.

In fact, I won't be posting pix of the banana bread. Not worth showing. Tasty, but scrappy to look at.

Tasty is all that counts!

Especially when it's mixed into some vanilla ice cream

Back in the 1990s one of my buddy's dad used the phrase regularly, "What do you want, egg in your beer"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egg_in_beer

It was a weird phrase and I asked him if he has ever cracked a raw egg into his beer. He said let's try it. So he grabbed three beer mugs, filled all of them from his beer keg in the kitchen kept in it's own fridge, and cracked a egg into all three. So my buddy, his dad and I all drank a beer with a raw egg in it. It was not bad, but the last bit of beer with an egg yolk sliding down my throat was weird.

I was just happy to get a free beer. The dad liked it, and offered another round. His wife was pissed when she opened the fridge and saw the last 1/2 dozen eggs gone.

We all survived with no ill effects, and I have had raw egg in my beer a few more times over the decades, but not often.

I always lock the spoon if brownies get made for sure, maybe for other things like cake or cookies too.

My wife's aunt was at our house once and took the bowl from making brownies, filled it with water sand then tossed the spoon in. I almost through her out of the house.

Is there still that hole-in-the-wall sliver of a Vietnamese market in Chinatown that sells banh mi sandwiches for $2.50? Used to grab 2 of them for lunch.

So many of those places are gone I'm sad to say. And the new ones that open are more American than I would like. One opened right across from one of my secret parking spots in Boston but they close at 5, so no banh mi for dinner before movies. A somewhat decent ramen shop and middle eastern style diner are my standards.

Supposed to be a great authentic one in Dorchester, Bánh Mì Chị Tôi | My Sister’s Sandwich Café, but it's a hike.
