The Beatles Final Song . . .

Now and Then

Paul was given a cassette tape John made months before he was murdered in 1980.

There was a lot of background noise, static, instrumentals that made it hard to isolate John’s vocals. Only recently with modern AI technology was Paul able to isolate John’s vocals and put together a final Beatle song as a tribute to George and John.

https://www.theguardian.com/music/2023/nov/02/now-and-then-listen-to-the-final-beatles-song-john-lennon-paul-mccartney-ringo-george-harrison

It is a nice tribute to John and George.

I'm glad we have it to listen to. People have mixed feelings about it.

Exactly! Some people don’t care for the song while it provides closure to others.

Sounds doctored.

But closure is never a bad thing for some.

Rings of the Traveling Wilburys to me and I think they might have done it better. But of course there is no connection to John. I never thought of John as a great singer. It's my taste in tone, that's all.

The Wilburys always said Roy Orbison was the anchor of their work. Subsequent albums proved that to me. Not counting out George and Tom. Jeff Lynne strikes me the same way as JL. Lots of talent but not a great vocalist.

Bob Dylan is just on another planet. Somehow a non singer sings some good stuff.

I have nothing but love and appreciation for what the Beatles gave the world, and baby I'm amazed at how even today it informs and transforms new listeners to music that for whatever reason resonates with many or even most of us somehow.

But seriously, how much blood do we need to squeeze out of the carcass of what's left? This song is ok, but it's not great, it's a one and done for me, and I'm cynical in that I doubt if it's really the last Beatles song that we'll ever hear.

I’m kinda surprised Paul would let this get out.

I think it’s terrible.

George Harrison said in 2000 the song was “rubbish.”

Does absolutely nuthin' for me ... but I was always just a casual Beatles fan ... liked JL's solo stuff ... and was a HUGE Stones fan ... just not interested in their latest either .

Now GOML .... and to quote Elaine ..... "Fake... fake... fake... fake" ... can't believe Paul Mc "Let It Be" released.

I'll ask my two hardcore Beatles buds what they think...

Should not have done this. Should have let the Beatles legacy be what it was. You still have the Ringo Starr All Starr Band, and Paul is touring. But don't try to re-create the magic from the past.

I heard the entire song just today. It ain’t bad, but it is better than some of the other songs the Beatles put out, like Revolution number 9.

I would rate it better than much of the modern music of today, but not in the top 50 of the Beatles songs.

For those of us that grew up with the Beatles and enjoyed their music this is one final hoorah . I look at it as a tribute by Paul and Ringo to their fallen band mates . I think it's cool that they did it .

Neither needs the $$$ , maybe just some solemn thoughts put to music . Or maybe not what do I know 😋

I said a sentence to my wife I never thought I would ever say. “I listened to the new Beatles song today”.

Hard to believe they broke up in the 60s.

And of course The Rolling Stones have a new album!

John Lennon was killed in 1980. "Free as a Bird" was released in 1995:

"Real Love" was released in 1996. The AI technology wasn't available to separate John Lennon's vocals from his cassette recording of "Now And Then."

OK ... fess up boyz ... how many have had passionate, alcohol fueled "arguments" ... The Beatles verses The Stones?

Too many to count here...

Of course ... in '68.... listening to "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy" on the jukebox, I would have said the Monkees were better than both ... THEY had a TV show ...

Though a soundtrack of my youth I wuz rockin' to others by '72 on .... 'twas just a bit young to appreciate them "real time" before they were history as a band.

Don't know why Paul didn't let Yoko add some "texture" to this one .... honoring John's legacy of course

The new Stones album is really pretty good, and their last album that was all blues was really good.

There was never any argument. The glimmer twins were miles above the 4 lads.

Cowsills? Archies? Hermans Hermits? Partridge Family? I don't remember the Monkees doing that?

Don't forget Elvis. I was a Beatles fan. I didn't realize you could like other bands back then. Now I'm ambibandsterous.

I love them both. The big difference was the Beatles were still singing "I wanna hold your hand" when the Stones were singing Sympathy for the Devil.

It is just part of my youth sitting in my bedroom, building model airplanes, and listing to Brown Sugar, and I can't get no Satisfaction from the stones, and Beatles songs as well.
