No not a Marvel comic character. Apparently cremation is not environmentally friendly enough so now they boil you in an alkaline solution until you dissolve then they pulverize your bones. So, is the energy required for this process really better than crematory emissions?

If they add hops do you turn into beer? Holy frijoles, that would be a 180, instead of pissing me off you'd be pissing me out.

George Carlin said that he wanted to be put in a Hefty bag and set on the curb with a "Do NOT Recycle" tag on it.

A few years ago Surface burials were proposed and they carried out some experiments.
They just laid the body on the ground and let nature have its way.

They actually do that, I believe in Tibet. They leave the body out in a field. Slice it open a bit and let the vultures dispose if it. They call it a Sky Burial

I remember years ago seeing a Forensic Files type TV show and it was explained that a human body left out in a hot and humid climate area, such as parts of Texas, Louisiana, Florida, etc., becomes unidentifiable in less than 48 hours and soon after is not even recognizable as human (this was not accounting for animal activity but did include insect feasting). Pretty gnarly.

Gnarly but ultimately we're part of the Earth.

Some years ago I saw on 60 minutes 20/20 or some simliar show a story about "forensic farms". These are place Coroners and forensic experts go to train and learn how the body decomposes under various conditions.

They may take oe body and place it in a car with the windows up in the sun, another with the windows down, another they may put the car with the body in it in a lake or pond.Other bodies they may just lay on the ground exposed with and with out clothing. Some partially buried, some in plastic bags, etc.

From that show to this day I look at road kill to judge how long it has been laying there. The show stated that flies will arrive almost instantly and begin laying eggs. They are attracked to the openings in bodies, Eyes, nasal passages, anus, vagina and open wounds. The eggs hatch within hours, the larvae will eat a body from the inside out as they want the moisture and blood source.

Whenever I sit down to eat and a fly shows up I immediately think of that show. It was very interesting.

↑↑↑↑↑↑ Sounds "gnarly" - (There's that word again Raunch... lol )

As I get older I try not to think about death but then someone dies and I find myself at another funeral. Just today the mother of a friend passed. I knew her well. She was 82 and lived a full life but cancer got her in the end. There's always that sense of loss.

A quote from the latest Matrix movie:

"Quietly yearning for what you don't have, while dreading losing what you do."

A request was made to move this out of PARF to here.

Sounded reasonable to me!

Enjoy.

I can't image the energy needed to boil a body in an alkaline solution until you dissolve and pulverize the bones is any "greener" that cremation. I have not read any studies or done any research but with a human soup of alkali and crushed bones still has to be disposed of. Does it go to the sewer system and is that hard on a system designed for sewage? I bet it would clog up your septic tank.

I would be fine with take my body to the woods, and plant a tree on top of me to feed the tree. That is green recycling. The funeral homes will be fighting it tooth and nail. They want to sell a coffin that costs more than a lot of cars, and then charge thousands more to have a cemetery spot.

The Body Farm! Always wanted to go there. Been trying to get work to send me.

Maggot activity is one of the main sources we use for determining length of death. Its fairly accurate but a lot of other factors effect it also. Temp, location , etc... So have to add it all together.

Once you get past a certain point of decomposition, It becomes more difficult to determine date of death. With a fresh body, we can usually pinpoint time of death to within an hour or two.
