Thoughts on this Cayenne GTS
This one has been on CL for about a month . Original asking price was 14.5k so they have dropped 2k . Sure looks clean . Is a 4 owner a red flag ? Says clean title/Carfax . What do you guys think ?

Cayennes are all about service history. If it doesn't have one, take $2K off that new price and save that for potential repairs. I've found my 2010 GTS very easy to work on and parts aren't that expensive but there is a long list of known issues on these trucks.
I still consider a 957 Cayenne GTS to be the ultimate "if I could only have one car"... |

Reviving an old thread. Looking at a local 09 GTS, 180 k , just had driveshaft, trans valve body and coolant pipes done, rotors, pads. Looks nice. 7k. Really tempted.
Have a 96 s600 Benz that would have to go. Its a dream car, but many parts are out of production, and while its been stellar its a ticking clock. The Cayenne is almost 2x the mileage but its 10 years newer and variants still in production so parts likely easier. Thoughts? Shaun? |
Greg, I'm at 170K now and as I've posted many times, absolutely love the truck with 40K miles put on it. Parts are relatively cheap and easy to get.
$7K is very very low for an 09 GTS and is probably twice the price of the valve body replace/repair job so I'd be careful. A $300 quality PPI would be the best money you'd spend on it. Have you driven it? You will want to buy it if you do. |
I'm going over next week. Retired guy, seems straight shooter. Has a mechanic friend that's done a fair amt of the work, suspect I can reach out. He initially had it on CL for 10k but no bites. I agree its stupid low. I'm also sure it has lurking issues, but what vehicle at that mileage doesn't...

In my opinion bore scoring and transfer case are the two big $$$ hitters . After that air suspension if so equipped . After that it's all normal maintenance on a high mileage euro car . Also check if plastic coolant pipes under the intake manifold have been replaced with aluminum . Good luck

Coolant pipes done. All cv axles recently done. I know bore scoring can be an issue but supposedly less so on 09 forward. It does have air suspension but I can deal-Arnott or similar.
Is the gas mileage as bad as reported? I'm seeing 12-13 around town and under 20 hwy? |
You will want to keep the air suspension, it's part of what makes a GTS and Turbo special. Very special. Rebuilt units are pretty cheap. Mine are still good but won't think twice if one or more go bad.
Gas mileage is horrendous. 13 around town and 17 on the highway. I get 15-16 doing 80 most of the time. As a second vehicle, gas mileage is worth it. |
Yeah, I'd keep the air. My Benz's have ads, which is the adaptive hyd suspension and it is special.

Just to close the loop, I bought the thing. Haven't picked it up, it went straight to an indy as it needed motor mounts. Doing those, trans mount, diff and transaxle fluids. $6500 for the vehicle, 1600 for the repair and 1200 for a set of tires. It has had coolant pipes, cv axles, trans valve body, driveshaft and jxb support bearing, battery just done.
Interior is remarkable for a car with close to 200k. The indy is a good guy, young, motivated. Pay for parts up front, $100 hr actual time. He provides a labor guarantee. Good find. He's got a following among the local exotic community, does a lot of 996/7 turbos and gt cars. I still do a lot of my own work but at 66 and with old injuries I don't care much for heavy mechanical work in the winter. |

Kind of a gunmetal silver. Not my fave, but at the price wasn't going to be choosy. Conti dsw's for now. Tire Rack has some p zeros cheap at the moment but I hear bad things about Pirelli's and cold. |
I opened the link in the pelican email, that's meteor grey metallic, same color as mine, I had an 86 Carrera in this color 25 years ago. I like it a lot myself. Black or red or orange would be others I like.
Don't get Pirellis. I have them for my summer set and they suck compared with Michelins which are phenomenol. You have to take out a second mortgage for a set but worth it IMHO. |
Yeah, the Pilots seem to be loved, I have a difficult time justifying close to 2k installed, but if cost was no object I'd be there.
Is not a "bad" color, but the orange metalic is to die for. |
I just did a TireRack search and was expecting $1600 for a set, not $2K. Wow. My set of Michelins 3 years ago were $1200, Pirellis about the same a year ago.
Yes, the orange is fantastic. |
