It's this a scam?

Tuesday I had a $798 charge on my credit card for Amazon. I double checked, and nothing is showing up in orders. No worries, I report the charge to my CC company.

But wait, there's more...

Today i received an Amazon package, with my name on it, containing 10 cloth closet organizers and four containers of disinfectant wipes. Double checked, and there's no record i ordered them. (Not that they're worth $798.)

So is this a scam? Are these events related? Maybe someone just thinks I'm a dirty, dirty, girl? Lol

My amazon act was hacked a couple weeks ago. You need to log in and see if there are any new delivery addresses added. There were several added to my account. I caught it before any money could be spent and had to beef up my account security and added additional notifications. Also make sure you have some sort of 2fa set up. Amazon support was surprisingly easy to work with.

Excellent suggestion. Thank you.

Sounds like the beginning of a scam. Be glad that you noticed something funky.

It sounds like the hack was of your credit card (charged to your card), not Amazon (but not via your account). Although it is crazy that the stuff showed up at your address. Maybe the person that made the purchase was hoping to porch pirate steal the order. I'd get a new CC and update passwords for your CC/bank.

"Brushing" scam comes to mind. The charge is something else. You get the product, you don't pay because it wasn't your purchase, but you are shown as the 'verified' purchaser nevertheless,.

Now look for a review with your name that you didn't write. Close your Amazon account and move any credit to a new one.

Expect somebody to offer you a convoluted solution to the "error" which involves you being temporarily out of pocket, e.g. for the cost of the return postage. Interested to hear how this develops.

If it's a Sonos speaker, let me know. I may have put down the wrong address.

Caution, Captain. Scummers will use the info to ship stuff to your home while you're at work, porch pirating is very organized, much more than just some crack-head driving around the neighborhood looking for stuff to steal. Also, shipped some stuff to your house (small items) with big stuff going to your "other' address (what the scummer tells the shipper).

Not sure if this applies to the scam, but I do a lot of purchasing on Amazon for work. Everything is needed "yesterday" so I tend to do an extended search.

I've come across things like 28 quart plastic storage bins, normally $12-20 for $325 and more from a vendor. This is for one container! Someone told me that it might be a money laundering scheme, I order 40 bins from you (vendor) and you charge me $13k, never ship any bins and now we've got $13k in clean money.

Maybe you did receive $798.00 in overpriced closet organizers and disinfectant wipes.

Well they're in for a surprise. I'm retired and home most of the day. Lol

Plus, as far as I know, no scammer of the type he described can prescribe what time a delivery is to be made, and this time of year deliveries come at weird times, even after dark. This method of porch pirating would require the pirate to stake out a person's home in order to get the package. Not happening, IMO.

I've seen the same before. I was looking for small step ladders with only 2-3 steps. On the first several pages, they were mostly $25-75 with a few that were maybe up to $200 and they all looked "reasonably" priced. But then once you got several pages into the search, you ran across the same cheap, Chinese step ladders for $700-1000 for a single ladder. I don't see those any more. "They" must have moved along to a new bogus product.

Today i received about 40 siege protector cords and another hanging storage thing.
Amazon has no record of my ordering them.

Yeah, highly inefficient and unrealistic.

Much easier to just follow a truck on its route which happens all the time.

Okay, i reached out to Amazon and gave them the 'TBA' number on the label. They confirmed i didn't order. They're also going to investigate.

Were they charged to your credit card?
