So if looking at the Starbucks model will there be dine in with internet? Or Sonic with no dining room?

I used to live at the Carl's Jr. salad bar. All you could pile on one time for a very reasonable price. I'd get a bit of lettuce and then pile it full of veggies + some cottage cheese. That would hold just fine until beer:30.

^^^ the article really doesn't say much about the interior.
I'm expecting it will be mostly drive-thru with maybe a small seating area?

I have not set foot in a McDonald's for lunch or dinner in 40+ years. A few times, only on road trips, because they were next to the hotel, I have eaten there.

Sonic is based in Oklahoma City, so we have them everywhere. It is 100% up to the manager of the Sonic as to the quality of the food. There is one nearby that I avoid, and drive three miles to one operated by a great manager. One of my wife's former co-workers was married to the CEO of Sonic. Her kids hated going to Sonic, because if the meal was not perfect, she would go in and make a scene and talk to the manager, and write them up.

I will not be stopping at the new place McDonald's has.

I'm not surprised he said the salads were a disaster.....but seems the McRibs has a large following.
I had them once on the first release...they were ok.

McDonald's strong point is their breakfast, main menu is constantly changing it seems and nothing worse than getting stuck in the drive thru behind someone ordering a bunch of "foo-foo" drinks.

In-N-Out has the right idea. Limited menu of burgers, fries and shakes made fresh and consistently every time.

One reason I gave up on McDonald's so long ago was if you order any changes to a burger, your odds of getting it you way is 20% and it takes them 10 minutes to figure it out. I am always amazed at how fast Jimmy John's is. Place the order, pay the cashier, and walk to the pickup area and it is ready. Just crazy fast, and made the way I want.

The chance of me trying anything from there is slim. It sounds like the 10 test locations won't be anywhere near here.

JackDidley 12-12-2023 07:33 AM

Some guy on the news last night said he was in line 4 hours+ to get his order. I aint doing that unless there is sex involved.

I know you're just a grouchy old man, but keep your stories straight.

40+ years ago, HOW did you change your burger order? All they had was burger, burger with cheese, bigger burger, bigger burger with cheese. WTF were you trying to do there if you changed that? Did you want exotic mushrooms put on it? Did you want toasted rye instead of the white bun? Did you want hand blended aioli instead of mayo??

If any of those random guesses were correct, then you probably want to go to CosMcs...

stevej37 12-13-2023 04:25 AM

A food critics taste test...... no more wanting to try the sandwiches!

Simple, no "special sauce" or no mustard on a 1/4 pounder.

I know 'someone' that cannot order McD's without saying 'extra pickles', or 'add an extra pack of sauce for the Nuggets'.

It drives me crazy. It's junk fast-food, take it and eat it.

Eating at places like that is why obesity impacts a majority of Americans today.

Reg 12-13-2023 09:23 AM

Hi had a mc chicken couple weeks ago at the newest mcd near me. It was dolled up with habanero sauce but the sauce was more quantity than the burger was. Pathetic for the price of it. I swear it’s a third smaller than when I was a kid.

I recently learned to always hold cheese there too. I used to feel crappy after eating there whether breakfast or supper. I don’t go much but as soon as I held off the ‘American cheddar’ it was gone. I’d pay extra to have real cheese which I’m fine with. Not offered.

Coffee is good. That I’ll give them.

No food. Just the milkshakes and coffee and breakfast (the only thing somewhat edible still).

Buy a whole bunch of new locations for that.
Because Starbucks and Tim Horton and every other drive thru haven't captured the entire market yet.

So instead of fixing their image, or reducing existing restaurant food prep times, or improving their menu to include better quality and what customers want, or lowering prices and gaining marketshare back, they go out on a real estate spending spree.
Brilliant.
