CosMc's....anyone try them yet?
McDonalds new spin-off. One opened last week in IL...nine more planned for Texas soon.
I'll try the new sandwiches described in the article...they sound good.:) https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/mcdonalds-opens-first-cosmcs-location-174504280.html |
https://corporate.mcdonalds.com/corpmcd/our-stories/article/mcdonalds-welcomes-cosmcs-to-its-universe.html
I don't think I'm their target audience. I think the Starbucks crowd or maybe the future starbucks crowd might be. https://corporate.mcdonalds.com/cont...02336x1040.jpg https://corporate.mcdonalds.com/cont...Food_11.22.png |
I would try that Creamy Avocado Tomatillo Sandwich of anything they have there.
The McPops look nothing more than a creme filled long-john. I think they did good by making the hash browns bite sized. |
A friend of a friend mine owns a number of McDonald's in Pennsylvania. I met him because my friend was a Steeplechase rider and trainer and trained his horses.
The last time we were all together the owner of the McD's was complaining that the brand was "stuck", at least in his words, with an outdated menu and no real way to break out of the mold. He rolled his eyes at McRibs and "salads", which he said was a complete retail disaster. The only thing I have eaten at McD's in twenty years is breakfast, and that has been a bit. The new menu, frankly, is less SB's and more Dunkin DN. |
^^^
I'm not surprised he said the salads were a disaster.....but seems the McRibs has a large following. I had them once on the first release...they were ok. |

I have known the owner since college and he is soon to retire at 75. He was very helpful in my understanding of retail fast food restaurants that was in my thesis in college. They track molecules. |
I think this will be a hit. Surely it's easier to operate a CosMc than a full McDonalds, and the menu is super focused on high profit offerings. The menu is also exactly what Americans want to eat.
I also won't be eating there. I can't afford the calories, or what I expect the prices will be. (I couldn't find prices online.) |
Yeah, it's hard for me to understand how McD's does so well compared to the others.
In our small town of 5K, in a two block section, there are almost all the big fast food places. Every day, McDonalds has the double drive thru and the parking lots full. The others usually have 3 or 4 cars at the most. |
CosMcs is basically going after the Dutch Bros customer with elaborate, sugary, confectionery, cold “coffee” drinks - caffeinated liquid desserts with three times as much sugar than coffee, that are consumed anytime, often in one’s car. Maybe on your way to dialysis.
Not clear if the food is central to the concept. Dutch Bros doesn’t have hot food, maybe MCD is just trying to differentiate itself. CosMcs will start with a handful of “sandwiches” - McMuffin-sized things that are delivered pre-cooked, pre-wrapped, and just get microwaved briefly - most everything else is some sort of pastry, finger food, or candy, that can be eaten with your hands only momentarily off the steering wheel. That’s why the hash browns are tot-sized, I guess. Apparently some of the locations will have multiple drive-through lanes. I’ll try it once, but sounds gross, basically. |
I'm curious why they would build the first one in IL and then the next 9 in Texas?
I do like the name of the new ones. |
The salads might have been a lot of distribution overhead with short storage but they were pretty good. When they had them.
The broken ice cream machines are always a letdown. People will eventually stop trying. Yeah it looks like Starbucks drive-thru with a few food items, but icy drinks are for summertime. (What in tarnation is that yellow patty made of?) |
^^^ I think that is a soft tortilla shell....there is no patty, just bacon. (just guessing)
|
Must be losing market share to Sonic?

When I was traveling to the facility in NC there was a McD's right next to the Hampton Inn (I know, Mr. Extravagant) and I'd always got one of their salads...I had my own dressing and crackers. Eating well on the road is hard. |

Sonic?? The closest Sonic to me is over 60 miles away. I stopped there once for a breakfast sandwich...never again. |

It definitely looks like a Starbucks crowd place. |
^^^ Agree with the consistency part...but some of their choices are strange.
A fish sandwich with a slice of American cheese on it?? Arby's kills with their fish sandwich...yet the place is mostly empty compared to McD's. |
I wonder if my GI system would react differently to this new menu. I'll probably not tempt the dragon.
|
So if looking at the Starbucks model will there be dine in with internet? Or Sonic with no dining room?
I used to live at the Carl's Jr. salad bar. All you could pile on one time for a very reasonable price. I'd get a bit of lettuce and then pile it full of veggies + some cottage cheese. That would hold just fine until beer:30. |
^^^ the article really doesn't say much about the interior.
I'm expecting it will be mostly drive-thru with maybe a small seating area? |
:D

Looks like all snacks and sugar. Ill pass.

I have not set foot in a McDonald's for lunch or dinner in 40+ years. A few times, only on road trips, because they were next to the hotel, I have eaten there.
Sonic is based in Oklahoma City, so we have them everywhere. It is 100% up to the manager of the Sonic as to the quality of the food. There is one nearby that I avoid, and drive three miles to one operated by a great manager. One of my wife's former co-workers was married to the CEO of Sonic. Her kids hated going to Sonic, because if the meal was not perfect, she would go in and make a scene and talk to the manager, and write them up. I will not be stopping at the new place McDonald's has. |

McDonald's strong point is their breakfast, main menu is constantly changing it seems and nothing worse than getting stuck in the drive thru behind someone ordering a bunch of "foo-foo" drinks.
In-N-Out has the right idea. Limited menu of burgers, fries and shakes made fresh and consistently every time. |

The chance of me trying anything from there is slim. It sounds like the 10 test locations won't be anywhere near here.
|
Some guy on the news last night said he was in line 4 hours+ to get his order. I aint doing that unless there is sex involved.
|
^^^ Lol.....Check out how far the gal came from in post #23. :D

40+ years ago, HOW did you change your burger order? All they had was burger, burger with cheese, bigger burger, bigger burger with cheese. WTF were you trying to do there if you changed that? Did you want exotic mushrooms put on it? Did you want toasted rye instead of the white bun? Did you want hand blended aioli instead of mayo?? If any of those random guesses were correct, then you probably want to go to CosMcs... |
A food critics taste test...... no more wanting to try the sandwiches!

I'm allergic to fast food....
It makes me swell up. |

Simple, no "special sauce" or no mustard on a 1/4 pounder. |

It drives me crazy. It's junk fast-food, take it and eat it. |
Eating at places like that is why obesity impacts a majority of Americans today.
|
Hi had a mc chicken couple weeks ago at the newest mcd near me. It was dolled up with habanero sauce but the sauce was more quantity than the burger was. Pathetic for the price of it. I swear it’s a third smaller than when I was a kid.
I recently learned to always hold cheese there too. I used to feel crappy after eating there whether breakfast or supper. I don’t go much but as soon as I held off the ‘American cheddar’ it was gone. I’d pay extra to have real cheese which I’m fine with. Not offered. Coffee is good. That I’ll give them. |

Buy a whole bunch of new locations for that. Because Starbucks and Tim Horton and every other drive thru haven't captured the entire market yet. So instead of fixing their image, or reducing existing restaurant food prep times, or improving their menu to include better quality and what customers want, or lowering prices and gaining marketshare back, they go out on a real estate spending spree. Brilliant. |
