CosMc's....anyone try them yet?

McDonalds new spin-off. One opened last week in IL...nine more planned for Texas soon.
I'll try the new sandwiches described in the article...they sound good.

I don't think I'm their target audience. I think the Starbucks crowd or maybe the future starbucks crowd might be.

I would try that Creamy Avocado Tomatillo Sandwich of anything they have there.
The McPops look nothing more than a creme filled long-john.

I think they did good by making the hash browns bite sized.

A friend of a friend mine owns a number of McDonald's in Pennsylvania. I met him because my friend was a Steeplechase rider and trainer and trained his horses.

The last time we were all together the owner of the McD's was complaining that the brand was "stuck", at least in his words, with an outdated menu and no real way to break out of the mold. He rolled his eyes at McRibs and "salads", which he said was a complete retail disaster.

The only thing I have eaten at McD's in twenty years is breakfast, and that has been a bit.

The new menu, frankly, is less SB's and more Dunkin DN.

I'm not surprised he said the salads were a disaster.....but seems the McRibs has a large following.
I had them once on the first release...they were ok.

Oh, he still makes a lot of money...his concern was a growth path to an audience (me) that no longer really goes to McD's. His profit curve is less than he and the other owners would like. I'll be interested to see how this goes...first time I have heard of the new approach. I may call him this week.

I have known the owner since college and he is soon to retire at 75. He was very helpful in my understanding of retail fast food restaurants that was in my thesis in college.

They track molecules.

I think this will be a hit. Surely it's easier to operate a CosMc than a full McDonalds, and the menu is super focused on high profit offerings. The menu is also exactly what Americans want to eat.

I also won't be eating there. I can't afford the calories, or what I expect the prices will be. (I couldn't find prices online.)

Yeah, it's hard for me to understand how McD's does so well compared to the others.

In our small town of 5K, in a two block section, there are almost all the big fast food places. Every day, McDonalds has the double drive thru and the parking lots full.
The others usually have 3 or 4 cars at the most.

CosMcs is basically going after the Dutch Bros customer with elaborate, sugary, confectionery, cold “coffee” drinks - caffeinated liquid desserts with three times as much sugar than coffee, that are consumed anytime, often in one’s car. Maybe on your way to dialysis.

Not clear if the food is central to the concept. Dutch Bros doesn’t have hot food, maybe MCD is just trying to differentiate itself. CosMcs will start with a handful of “sandwiches” - McMuffin-sized things that are delivered pre-cooked, pre-wrapped, and just get microwaved briefly - most everything else is some sort of pastry, finger food, or candy, that can be eaten with your hands only momentarily off the steering wheel. That’s why the hash browns are tot-sized, I guess.

Apparently some of the locations will have multiple drive-through lanes.

I’ll try it once, but sounds gross, basically.

I'm curious why they would build the first one in IL and then the next 9 in Texas?

I do like the name of the new ones.

The salads might have been a lot of distribution overhead with short storage but they were pretty good. When they had them.
The broken ice cream machines are always a letdown. People will eventually stop trying.

Yeah it looks like Starbucks drive-thru with a few food items, but icy drinks are for summertime.

(What in tarnation is that yellow patty made of?)

Must be losing market share to Sonic?

They are headquartered in Chicago. The next 9 I can only speculate.

I thought they were excellent as well.

When I was traveling to the facility in NC there was a McD's right next to the Hampton Inn (I know, Mr. Extravagant) and I'd always got one of their salads...I had my own dressing and crackers.

Eating well on the road is hard.

The closest Sonic to me is over 60 miles away.
I stopped there once for a breakfast sandwich...never again.

McDonalds, more than any other fast food joint, as nailed down CONSISTENCY. You can walk into any McDs anywhere, and the Big Mac tastes EXACTLY how you expect it to taste, and how it's tasted for 40 years. It's a safe bet that you can go to any town, and if you need something to eat, you know what it's gonna be if you go to McDs.

I'm not sure I could trust someone who wouldn't want a Churro Frappe, that sounds absolutely amazing, and I don't go for fo-fo coffee drinks.

That's all? Mine is 5 hours away via jet.

It definitely looks like a Starbucks crowd place.

^^^ Agree with the consistency part...but some of their choices are strange.
A fish sandwich with a slice of American cheese on it??

Arby's kills with their fish sandwich...yet the place is mostly empty compared to McD's.

I wonder if my GI system would react differently to this new menu. I'll probably not tempt the dragon.
